Schedule/School Advice in General -Kelley DA (long post)

This will be long and any advice, even if it only touches on one small aspect of this master list, would be appreciated. And if you have questions for me (as in, if I can help you at any way in regards to my experiences or recommendations), please let me know! I’m more than happy to help out.

Context:
I am an out-of-state student in the Kelley School of Business. I don’t know what I want to major in, but Informations Systems interests me. I am trying to be as efficient as possible with my scheduling. I came in with 12 credits and got rid of my English and World Language & Culture requirements. I am in Hutton Honors. I might want to study abroad, but it’s not a necessity for me.

FA16 (18.5 credits):

BUS-K 204 - A
BUS-T 134 - A+
BUS-T 175 - A
ECON-E 201 - A
EDUC-X 159 - A
MATH-M 119 - B
PSY-P 101 - A-
SPH-I 181 - A
SPH-I 281 - A

I also am in the KLLC and joined the KLLC Conduct Board

SP17 (this semester, 17.5 credits, advice for these classes would be appreciated):

BUS-C 106 - Dawn Wisher
BUS-A 100 - (1st 8wk)
BUS-D 270 - David Harrison (2nd 8wk)
BUS-K 303 - Chris Robbins (would it be better to take 304 in FA17 and replace with an A&H/something else?)
BUS-L 201 - Victor Bongard
BUS-G 202 - Steven Kreft
PSY-P 102 - Jim Cuellar
BUS-T 144

I plan on rushing for a business fraternity, I’m applying to be a Peer Tutor for K201/204, and am trying to get into Kelley Honors. I am trying to get a Psychology minor.

SU17 (classes I might take over the summer, 9 credits):

BUS-A201 - I’m not sure if I want to take this over the summer, advice appreciated
MATH-M118 - I am not good at math and I’ve heard this class kills GPAs if taken at IU
ECON-E202 - I’ve heard it’s easier over the summer. This isn’t a necessity to take this summer, but I do want to take it over the summer somewhere other than IU

I might work part-time over the summer. I don’t know if this would be achievable considering the classes I want to take.

FA17 (15 credits; the goal for this semester is to get rid of all of my remaining I-Core requirements, so if I don’t get into Kelley Honors, I want to take I-Core in the spring):

BUS-C 204/205 (which?)
BUS-T 275
BUS-A 202/205 (which?)
ECON-E 370/STATS-S 301 (which?)
BUS-? 271
PSY-P 372

I know that I could move a class from Summer 2017 to Fall 2017 and replace Psychology with it, just to lessen the course load over the summer, but I’ve heard that Macroeconomics and Finite Mathematics kill GPAs when taken at IU, and are easier at Ivy Tech (or some other community college), and it’s also not recommended to take A201 and A202 in one semester. What should I do? Also, which course should I take as an honors course? I need 1 more in the first 4 semesters of college in order to stay in Hutton.

If I keep the fall and summer as they are, I still need to take 2 A&H classes, but they are not I-Core requirements. One more psychology class to go and I get my minor.

Now for some questions: did I miss any I-Core requirements? Does anyone have advice for these classes, these teachers, these schedules, my summer school courses, anything like that?

Very important: if I get into Kelley Honors, what can I do with my spring semester so that I don’t waste it?

And yes, I will be seeing an advisor about this (from Hutton, from Kelley, and from Kelley Honors), but I feel it’d be best to try to get advice from all angles that I can.

I am a current sophomore in Hutton and Kelley Honors. Here are some of my thoughts:

-Definitely take C204 instead of C205. C205 is a lot more work and actually grades harder in many cases

-K303 is very easy, but K304 is significantly more challenging and requires more work

-My advisor told me to take STAT-S 301 over E370, though I don’t remember why.

-The honors version of A202 is A207, not A205. A207 can only be taken in the spring, and A205 can only be taken in the fall. I took A205 (honors financial accounting) last semester and had a good experience. The class was graded on a curve where roughly 1/4 of the students got an A, 1/4 got an A-, 1/4 got a B+ and 1/4 got a B. Basically you could bomb every exam and get a 50% and end up with a B in the class.

-I also took both A205 and A202 last semester. There was one day where I had tests for both. That day was pretty draining, but otherwise, I don’t see any problems with taking both accounting classes in the same semester. Many students do it every semester.

-If you aren’t good at math, taking finite at a CC is probably a good idea. You don’t need to take A201 over the summer, but I guess you could if you want to lighten your load for Fall 2017. I don’t know anything about econ at IU since I had AP credit for micro and macro.

-For D270 with Harrison, just make sure to attend every class. He has review sessions in class before each exam, and the material is basically the same as the exam. Don’t read the book. It’s not necessary.

-For G202 with Kreft, make sure to take thorough notes on case debrief days. Then review those notes, the powerpoints, and practice problems before exams.

-I would highly recommend Katherine Ryan for C204 and Justin Ford for T275

Regarding future scheduling:

If you do well in A100, I would take only finite over the summer. I would sign up for all of the classes that you currently have listed under Fall 17, and add A201 to bring you up to 18 credits. Then, you can drop one of the accounting classes if you get into Kelley Honors, and drop psych if you don’t. Either way, it will bring you back to 15 credits. That leaves you with 4 classes to take in the spring if you don’t get into Kelley Honors (the dropped accounting class, both A and H’s, and Psych). It also allows you to get all of your I-Core prereqs done in the fall if necessary.

Please let me know if any of this doesn’t make sense.
