college writing r1a (6 units)
econ 1 (4 units)
math 53 (4 units)
chinese 10ax (3 units)

will this be too much work for an incoming freshman?
i took the chinese placement test and it said i should start with 10bx, but they don't offer that first semester hence chinese 10ax. by taking 10ax it might help me transition into 10bx better. but if this workload is too much, im willing to drop chinese.

If you take Chinese10AX P/NP, I don't think that's a horrible schedule. Ambitious, certainly, but not impossible.

Remember, though, you're going to be doing a lot of stuff outside of studying, and if you want to maintain a good GPA with a hard schedule on top of all the first-semester-freshmen activities (finding clubs, making new friends, etc), you're going to have to really manage your time well. There's only 24 hours in the day, after all.

SIX units? I had no idea there was a six unit class. Umm, I don't have any real advice, but that seems crazy (a six unit course, not your schedule in particular).

yeah, the college writing r1a class is for people who didn't pass the uc entry level writing requirement.

ballblazer_1: i haven't signed up for chinese10ax yet. and yeah, apparently, they're all filled. if you want to take the class, just go on the waitlist.

Exscienciatri: For certain classes (language classes, especially), there are prereqs to being allowed to take the class (must be declared in a certain major, must have taken pre-req classes, etc). In the case of language classes, you must take a placement test before you can be admitted into the class. All those kids on the waitlist are folks who haven't taken the placement test yet.
