How come when I click the Schedule button on Pennintouch I get absolutely nothing even after I’ve added all my requests? How exactly does this system work? If I have a good “primary” schedule that fits, and a separate “alternate” schedule that works as well (by itself), but I don’t get all my primary classes, what happens if my alternate doesn’t fit anywhere at all?

It would appear that your entries have not been plugged and chugged. Perhaps the next date to process is Drop/Add.....have you contacted registrar's office??

I already added all the courses I wanted manually... Schedule just says "This display will start with your latest term of activity. If other term schedules are available, they will be listed at the bottom of the page."

You can select and do all of the appropriate actions but until the program is plugged and chugged you will not have a result. What date was provided to you as a new student for registration? Are you still within that period of time? Your advisor has taken off the hold so you have added your requests to the que and when the registrar cranks the system you will know what your schedule is. My guess is you are looking at early August....but that is just a guess. I am certain you have some dates in your print material or you can ask on Pennster...certainly others have these same issues. Good Luck

Is it necessary to back up math lectures? How many alternates should be included for each course? Just one? Should I be acting on the assumption that the Primary schedule should be perfect on its own, independent on the alternate schedule for the same classes, which works on its own?

You develop a hierarchy for the course selection......which course do you want or need the most.....put this as your first priority. Your schedule should be showing immediately......I cannot tell you why it is not. Registrar Office has a phone and will help you...215.898.6636

The math class one is bugging me. Should the Math Lecture work with both primary and alternate schedules?

It sounds as if it works with primary request....so if you are forced into secondary request and you want math.....yes. The system recognizes your ranking of desire for a particular course.

Nevermind I moved Chinese around and got both to work.

take the late assignment and change it during drop/add which is an extended period of time.....go to the section you desire, gain permission to be added to the section and bingo.....DONE.

Have you contacted the math department? Have they told you how the course census usually shakes out? Is this a low or high level math course?

Good Luck

Do you mind If I send you a PM?

not a problem.....I am trying to help you, I am sure this is frustrating.

What is the correct way to add backup writing seminars in the event that your primary and alternate writing seminars are full? What about extra courses in general in the event that a primary and alternate class is full?

i think you just hope for the best and then add something else during the add/drop period if the one request (prim + alt) doesn't work, right?
