Hi all,
Today we had to begin planning schedules for next year. Here are my classes I plan to take. Any advice would be much appreciated! Good or bad
Junior year:
AP Lang
Pre calc
Ap Bio
Anatomy
AP Psychology
Econ
Foods and nutrition (required)
Health (required)
Spanish 3
Since I am a sophomore and planning for junior year, I do not know the specific electives for senior year, but these are the core classes I plan to take:
AP calc AB
AP physics 1
AP gov
AP lit
If there are any AP classes I should be aware of, please let me know. I do not play an instrument and my school runs on trimesters. I am currently in APUSH.
Thanks!!
If you are okay with taking 4 APs next year (and your school offers these courses) you could look into taking AP Macroeconomics or AP Microeconomics instead of just Econ. My school only offered AP Marco which I took senior year and I personally found the material easy to understand as well as interesting.
Could you maybe let me know what exactly you’re looking for? I’m not sure if you want a list of other AP classes or if you just want a list of classes in general
As for other APs I took at my school that (not including the ones already included in your plan) you could look into to see if your school offers them are:
- AP Chem
- AP World History (assuming you didn’t take this Freshman year)
- AP Human Geography
- AP Environmental Science
We definitely have AP Econ, but I am scared to take it. I heard that it is one of the hardest ap classes, and I am scared to put myself through it if I am pursuing a career in medicine. Tri 1 is Macro tri two is micro. Would it look bad if I am taking 8 ap classes (collectively) and then not Econ?
@Gabby2001 Not if the class is irrelevant to your interests. If you want to do anything with economics tho, you should take the AP course.
AP Bio and AP Psych go perfect together.
Too late… But I would’ve suggested AP Lang for sophomore year and Lit for junior, but otherwise, it’s a good schedule.
I think those 3 aps are good for a balanced junior year schedule. Ap bio is an intense course and requires a lot of work but I think it is a reasonable challenge
AP Biology and AP Psych cover a lot of material together that are related, so it is a great idea to take both at the same time. However, at least for me, AP Bio is ridiculously hard. Even though I am not even close to being the smartest student at our school, I had an A- in Honors Biology and currently have a C+ for AP Biology (I still would have taken the class if I had known I would have gotten a C because the class is interesting, the teacher is fantastic, and even if I do bad, that means I got a head start for college). I would definitely say get into a study group for AP Bio or you’ll do bad. I did that since the last test and got a B, which is well above the average for the class.
I believe you should never take an AP because it is easy or to look impressive. Take it because it interests you. For example, I am taking AP Environmental Science next year. Do I expect it to be easy? Of course. The requirements are so minimum that anybody using around 10% of their brain would be allowed into it. Is that why I am taking the course? Absolutely not. I found the ecology unit that we did for Honors Biology to be one of the most interesting and fun units of the year and the teachers that may teach it are extremely kind and helpful.
I’m interested in medicine and just finished up AP macro. I’ll confess I took the class to add more AP to my schedule, but I ended up LOVING it. I’m looking forward to starting AP micro this week. The AP econ exams are considered on the easier side, which is why it is often recommended as a possible self-study. I think it’s worth a second look, especially since you don’t have any AP history classes to deal with.
I want to go into premed neuro science. I am still undecided to take AP ECON or not, as they changed the entire curriculum at our school and even the smartest of people are struggling to get B’s. Will I use econ in pre med? Is it really necessary?? I just feel like regular is the right path for me since an overwhelming majority in my grade will be taking regular econ (even the top 10%)
