Hi, im an incoming freshman at UMich (Ann Arbor) this semester. I wanted to take a manageable classload first semester along with a few classes I enjoyed, but after reading other schedule posts im beginning to think that itll simply be a wasteful blowoff of a semester. I already have 10 IB credits in physics, 6 in bio, 2 in english, and 4 in history, but didnt know until recently that these wouldnt count towards med school requirements. What do you guys think?

Hindi 115 (first year hindi)
Chem 130 (general chem)
Chem 125 Lab/Lecture
Chem 126 Lab/Lecture
English 125 (first year writing)
Psych 211 (volunteer outreach)

tot: 16 credits (they said not to go over 17)

i'm an incoming freshman at Case western. That schedule looks pretty similar to mine. The only difference in premed requirements is that i'll be doing my calc I credit in the upcoming semester.

That's more than manageable.

yeah i was going to take calc I along with chem too, but all the advisors were like NO WAY THATS IMPOSSIBLE so I decided not to. now im thinkin that I wont have time to finish my pre-recs before I apply :/

hey Ghetto...I go to UM..and that is certainly a manageable schedule for first semester. You shouldn't have much of a problem doing those...I've done chem 130/126 and Eng 125...hopefully you'll get a cool GSI for eng and you can get an A and with the usual studying 130 will be fine...watch out for 125/126...that's probably one of the most pain in the butt classes at UM.

do you think its too easy a schedule though? some of my friends are telling me i should try to fit in more pre-recs..

mmm...I think it is alright...you are getting in Chemistry so that's fine and you are also finishing your first yr eng requirement so thats cool too. The whole pt of the first sem is to get adjusted to University life and at the same time manage to get good grades, especially as a premed...just focus and then your second semester you can start building up a more demanding schedule...afterall most premeds at UM do physics and organic chemistry 2nd semester and that is enough for a lot
