Hi everyone. I will be attending Dartmouth in the fall as a '13, and am planning to major in comparative literature.

I was just wondering if any current students had tips for choosing my first fall schedule.
For example, I think I read on this forum that it is better not to take a freshman seminar fall term so students can have more time to get used to college life.
Does anyone have any similar tips/advice when it comes to choosing a schedule?

And also, is it beneficial to take writing 5 fall term?

you HAVE to take writing 5 your first term, which precludes you from taking a freshmen seminar till the winter term

^…unless you qualify out of Writing 5, that is.

I think OP is asking what some of the good/great classes are that some of you have taken which others might enjoy their first quarter at Dartmouth. I’m also interested. Granted, Writing 5 will be one of the three for most incoming freshman. I believe I’ve read that non-Math interested majors should avoid Math 3 fall quarter and wait until winter. What about Econ 1 (assuming <5 on AP exam)? Should freshman go ahead and take their foreign language sequence the first year?

S would love to begin at Dartmouth this summer if that were allowed and we are both like kids in a candy shop reading about offered classes. I know he will get advisement when he arrives in the fall, but having an idea beforehand will be of value, I think.

Thanks everyone. That’s a good tip about Math 3, thanks.
Does anyone have any suggestions about great classes/teachers to avoid?
