Schedule

If you take a class that ends at 1:00 (just as an example), is it not a good idea to take another class that starts at 1:00? Do classes end early (like at some other colleges I know) or do they end precisely on the time it says?

All classes start 10 minutes after the scheduled time (it’s called michigan time), so scheduling classes back-to-back is fine. I actually recommend it as having short downtime hours can be unproductive. Even if your class ends right at the schedule time, you should be fine on travel time to your next class (in MOST cases).

In my experience, classes end at the listed time, with two exceptions.

One of my math teachers let us go early a few times before the final because we learned the material really quickly and didn’t feel the need for a review session (now that I think about it, two of my math teachers did this). However, at other times he kept us late because he taught us about current research in the field instead.

When I took biology at the graduate school, it ALWAYS went over the listed time. I think we had an early day only once throughout the entire semester. Since I had scheduled my Great Books discussion back-to-back with it, I got used to running from the BSRB to Angell Hall twice a week :)

Provided both classes are on central campus, you can absolutely make it from a class that ends at 1:00, to a class scheduled to start at 1:00 (1:10 michigan time!)

For the first few days, it may seem like you’re not going to make it, but as you start to learn the paths you’re taking and such, you’ll make it almost anywhere in about 5 minutes!

It would be from calc (so math building) to econ (wherever that is). I am guessing both on Central.
