Scheduling classes

I've started thinking about classes to take next semester, and I've narrowed it down to five classes, which is my target. However, my tentative schedule involves back to back to back classes with no break for lunch for three days of the week, and I know that I function better on a solid three meals a day.

The problem is that the one course that is causing the scheduling problems is a freshman-only class and has only one section, so I can't easily rearrange my schedule and keep that class.

I really like how my schedule from this semester worked out because I have breaks in between my classes to relax and eat.

Does anyone have experience with a schedule like this? Is it manageable, or should I replace the class even though next semester is the only time I can take it? I'd have class from 10 am-2:30 pm straight.

I prefer having breaks between classes too, but I’ve had semesters with back to back classes like that. It’s not too bad. Eat a big breakfast and bring a few snacks with to eat between classes. Something like a granola bar can go a long way. It’s certainly manageable. That’s really not that long of a day.

Thanks! That’s good to hear.

If you can do it, go for it. I used to have 3 classes back-to-back from 10am-3pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, but I had to drop one of them because I couldn’t handle not having time to get myself lunch.

Last semester I had physics from 8-9:15, calculus from 9:30-10:45, and chemistry from 11-12:15. Then I had a lunch break, followed by anthropology from 1:30-2:45, and then Spanish from 6-7:45. Every Monday and Wednesday. Those were some long days, but it was manageable.

I have back to back classes this semester; I intentionally scheduled them that way because I like being in and out as quickly as possible; so something like 8:00-8:50, 9:00-9:50, 10:00-10:50 worked perfectly for me because I’d have my breakfast at 6, and then my lunch at 11, and then I’d be home by noon. I’m trying to schedule something similar for next semester as well.

It’s not too bad - I usually keep a water bottle (camel bak) with me and maybe a nutrigrain bar, but the water bottle usually held me over just fine in class. I don’t like breaks because I couldn’t bring myself to schedule breaks that were large enough for a lot of work to be done. (3+ hours.) I prefer just open, free afternoons.
