Scheduling classes

I'm going to orientation in a couple of days (session 104), and just wanted to ask a question about scheduling (don't have any older siblings to get advice from :().

From looking at the basic ChemEng program, I've gathered that the classes I'm likely to take first quarter are: Math 31B, Chem 20A and Eng Comp 3.

Math and Chem are both MWF classes. Trying to decide if I should take a MonWed English class or a TuesthuRs English class. It would be nice having whole days off if I picked a MW one, but is three classes in one day too much? Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

Also - Scerri or Gelbart for Chem? Bruinwalk didn't have that much on Gelbart.

Thanks.

Hrm..I have Sheri and I decided to go M-Fri.

theres lectures and discussions. personally i think u should get ur daily dose of school =) u could do it but u need to make sure there are no conflicts. there may be conflicts between the Final examination dates, lecture classes, and discussion classes. luckily u have a planner to plan this all out.

I would pick Scerri for Chem 20A. He's a clever lecturer.

is de neve to public policy a walkable distance in 10 mins?

kinda... if u walk fast or jog but its downhill. take a look at the campus map.

De Neve to Public Policy is walkable in 15 mins.
Don't be a hero.

I have 2 maps in fact. One of them made it look like they were closer to each other than the other map.?

I don't want to be out of breath all the time.
Will I have time to spare?

is one of ur class discussions in de neve or something? i have to agree with flopsy... its pretty far.

umm..one of my lectures are in de neve

would going the other way help then? (if i had the chance to change)

and another: how about from de neve to royce hall in 15 mins? i know it's closer than public policy but how much i don't know

maybe theres another lecture for one of the two classes at a different time? generally non GE classes have many lecture options as far as i can tell.

i think it's closed/conflict/same question but other pathway around, and they're ge classes.

How about my question in the previous post?

"and another: how about from de neve to royce hall in 15 mins? i know it's closer than public policy but how much i don't know"

yea i think it takes normally a little less than 15 minutes to get from de neve to royce. for me, i takes 20 minutes to get to public policy. either i'm a slower walker or you guys just walk really fast.

i've timed this one: from sproul hall to the bruin bear or from sproul hall to anderson (through north campus) are both roughly 6-7 minutes, depending on how fast you walk.

do classes usually end early, on-time, or late?

from my experience, most classes seem to end on-time. i mean, these profs have been doing the same lectures for years, they wrote the syllabus and they know their material well. i would say occassionally classes run late or profs run out of time to complete the day's material. very rarely did the class end early.

how about when class begins? are there some stragglers who arrive late to class? like 1-2 min?

It's quite difficult to schedule classes when taking clusters - at least it seems so. I'm assuming the lecture that's being referred to is the Biotech 71a Cluster? I think it's gonna be tough to go that distance in 10 minutes. I had the same problem, so I just opted to avoid that (De Neve to Bunche/Franz) and take two final exams back to back on a Monday instead. =/

yea the clusters made it for difficult for me to schedule classes too... but that's just 2 quarters. the third quarter is the seminar, which is 3 hours on only one day, so that should make scheduling easier.

"how about when class begins? are there some stragglers who arrive late to class? like 1-2 min?"

it varies. most profs like to start on time. i've heard one prof would just talk about sports for 5 minutes to wait for stragglers. i had another one who played latin music for a few minutes before class started (granted, it was a colonial latin america history class). but i've had some profs who don't care if u come in late or not and just start lecturing. usually, this happens in big lecture halls where the prof probably won't even notice you in the back arriving late.

thanks for the info.. w00t 2000 posts kfc
