Hello, I am a senior and I am in a little dilemma. Right now, I am in a complicated situation in which I must "drop" band to maintain my first place position. I put "drop" in quotes because I am not actually dropping the class but rather not receiving credit for it. Long story short, the school is allowing me to put "Lunch" on my transcript but I would still be in band. As a result, colleges would see that I am taking lunch 8th period (the last period) instead of band when I am actually in band. This would ensure that I receive no credits for the class keeping my place in first. Now what I am wondering is that will this lack of band in my senior year (I have taken band all four years and am highly passionate about it) negatively affect me? Will I be able to explain my position to them? I am looking at schools like Princeton, Dartmouth and MIT. Right now, I am 99% sure I am going to "drop" band but I just wanted to see what anyone else thought. Thanks.

Hmm… So you arent actually in lunch 8th, you just dotn want colleges to see that you’re taking band?

@Learnerforlife: No. He/she is saying that their GPA will drop if they have a 4.0 class, so they’re taking it off of their schedule. They’re wanting to know if it will look weird that they took band for three years, and not four. They want the college to know they’re in band.

@Asker: I don’t think it would look weird. They’d probably just think it was some scheduling conflict. This happened to my friend. She had to “drop” her band and aide periods. If you’re in marching band they’ll probably figure it out and won’t hurt you for it.
