I'm enrolled in two classes that have the same lecture time. The chemistry class has two other lectures that i can attend on the same days. would it be better to stay with that and go to a different lecture or just try my luck on the waitlist? The finals don't conflict and neither do the discussions

What class is it? If the lecture you’re planning on attending has a different professor than the one you’re enrolled in, it probably isn’t a good idea.

You might be better off trying the waitlist, but that depends on what class it is.

it is chemistry 14B and math 3B. all of the chemistry lectures have the same teacher: Lavelle

If they’re the same teacher then go for it. Just make sure you stick with the plan the entire quarter and don’t stop attending lectured :D

I’m in the exact same position! I enrolled in Chem 14B Lecture 3 and Math 3B and yeah, they both start at 2pm.

Are we allowed to take two classes that overlap? The counselors won’t come running after us during Week 5 and tell us we can’t take the class anymore right?

Other than that, if we keep up with the lectures, then we’ll be okay. Hopefully Lecture 3 has a better curve too.

My reasoning is that there’s no reason for us NOT to take the class. I mean, Lavelle teaches the same stuff for every lecture, and besides, people don’t even go to class (they just use the podcasts).

I heard last year that one of the lectures were overwhelmed with students (to the point that some of them had to sit on the floor) so Lavelle started checking IDs to see if they were REALLY enrolled in the correct lecture.

This isn’t high school anymore. You can have 2 classes overlap and nobody is going to give a crap. As long as the finals don’t overlap (if you don’t take the final you get an automatic F, that goes for any class), then you’re fine.

The main thing you should look out for is if the midterms overlap. The professors will announce those the first day of class. If there is a conflict, talk to the professor and see if you can make things work.

if lectures overlap then it usually means that the scheduled finals time will overlap. i speak from experience.

@GrassBandit

They can check on URSA/myUCLA, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

Apart from the possibility of overlapping finals, what about overlapping midterms? That would be my biggest concern…

i’m fully aware of the ursa/myucla business you speak of. it’s that this forum is full of dimwits.

finals dates are very rarely rescheduled. midterms, on the other hand, can be rescheduled easily. i’ve had classes where the midterm was moved to 4th week (6th week was original), and as late as 8th week midterm (most EE midterms are in 6th week).
