Scheduling Conflicts

Congratulations!

Odd man out here...DS was asked to attend a number of events his senior year. It was impossible to attend them all...some where actually on the same dates. Our policy was that all school events came first. If the trip to a "place" was with friends for social purposes only, that didn't count if it was arranged with friends. OTOH, there were some events of this nature that coincided with school courses (e.g. symphony concert with the band members; trip to amusement park with physics classes). Because these were school related and not social in nature, DS was asked to attend those. BUT he was a smart kid....there was a particular organization that gave him a more sizable stipend and he chose to go to that one even though it conflicted with a previously schedules social event. I agree....let the student make the decision. DS sent a very gracious thank you note to any place where he could not attend...and he told the reason (we insisted on this...imagine how silly he would have felt if someone had read "couldn't come because he went to Disney with his friends today".
