I will be a high school junior this upcoming year and I have some scheduling problems. I am struggling with choosing either Spanish IV (more language can't hurt right?) or Programming I (figured it would be nice to have that under my belt)...my schedule can't fit both classes in so advice on which would be of the most use would be greatly appreciated

Take Spanish your Jr year and Programming your Sr year. Colleges will want to see that you took the most rigorous Academic classes, especially in your Jr year, so having completed a high level Spanish class will “look” much better on your transcript.

Ok, thank you very much…that was what everybody has been telling me but I’ve just been hesitant because I only have four years to get in everything that colleges are looking for
-Thank You

Not just to look good for a college, but learning a language is awesome. Not everyone gets to take Spanish IV in high school because they haven’t taken enough years of the language. IV was the single best year of FL for me; I learned so much. Definitely try to fit it in.

Foreign languages are important. Your ability to learn them generally decreases with age, and having taken foreign language classes is important for admissions, so I’d recommend taking Spanish now and Programming either later or in college. If you’re looking to major in computer science, you’re probably going to be better off taking the intro-level courses in your college’s compsci department to make sure you have the proper foundation anyway.
