So, in my state, students are required to take 4 years of high school English. This year, I am taking Honors American Lit. For next year, my teacher had a reserved recommendation for AP English lit because I rarely participate (I'm just not good at that). However, I don't really want to take it, because English is my least favorite subject, and I don't think I would do that well in it. My mom also wants me to take it. However, I want to take a class called World Literature, because I really like the teacher and I'm interested in the course... However, that means my next year course load is not all APs (which can lower my weighted gpa_ but I should have around 4-5 other APs... Should I take AP English, even though I don't want to, or should I take this college prep world lit course which I want to take...

You will get much more out of a class that you really want to take than from a class you just take because it looks good on your transcript. Who cares about a potential .02 difference in your GPA?

Your reasoning for taking the World Lit class makes great sense. If you take it (which it sounds like you should if you'll get more out of it), just make sure you explain your reasoning in your applications next year and you'll be fine.

bump... I think I would probably do OK in that class, but I really don't want to take another AP (which isn't that easy) and I just hate english...

AP Lit has a lot of participation involved...at least in my class, because you have to have open discussions about literature/drama/poetry. So, if you rarely participate in the class, then your grade may suffer. So take the class you are probably going to like more.
