How rigid is the scheduling at USC, in terms of requirements for majors (specifically economics/math or political science)? As in, would I have many opportunities to take courses in other subjects?

And is it really difficult to obtain a double major? Thanks!

You will need to investigate each major you are interested in to determine how many units the major requires. The number of units varies (much more than you would think). You can find this information out here in the USC catalogue:

You’ll almost definitely be able to take courses outside your major; in fact, some majors require a minimum amount of units taken outside the major.

Check and see what requirements you can fulfill with AP or IB credit.

Our D is doing a double major, with some “extra” classes, but one major doesn’t require an extraordinary number of classes, and she fulfilled some requirements with AP and IB courses (she did both), and only needed one semester to fulfill the foreign language requirement.
