Scheduling Help: Advantages of AP Stats?

I just scheduled my classes for senior year and was wondering what are the advantages of taking AP Statistics?

Unfortunately, I'm in regular Math (Discreet/ Trig). My Math teacher mentioned that AP Stat can get you out of Calc in college, but I researched a little online and found nothing about this? ( I just found it can get you out of a Stat class).

And even if I can skip Calc with Stat AP isn't Calc an important class to take?

Any info you have on the topic would be appreciated. Sorry for any overwhelming ignorance. :/

Thanks.

I think what your math teacher is referring to is that AP stats, if you get a qualifying score on the AP exam, can fulfill your math requirement at college assuming that your college accepts AP credits as substitues for core requirements and you are not majoring in a subject that requires higher level math (like calculus)

It can help you out if you decide to do business, but more so, it can help you understand the practical use of statistics in your daily life such as: how many people will be tested for aids and be positive if they don’t have it. Stuff like this and maybe statistics about drugs will be something you may come across later in life. Knowing statistics you will know potential risks and what not. It has many other benefits but I cant really think of them at this moment.

^^yea, that too…practical stuff…

If you’re majoring in science and mathematics, you’re required to take both stats and calc as lower division courses in college.

Thanks for the info. I’m definitely planning to go into a science related major, so I’ll take AP Statistics next year.
