Scheduling Help

I basically want to know is this is doable/which of the multiple options to choose, if I have a shot at getting into these courses (UGBA 102 haha...alternatives?), and if so, which to Phase 1/2 (Telebears: 4/23 12pm & 7/26 11:40am)

I'm intended business + applied math, but want to keep econ open as a back-up.

Courses I want to take next year:

Econ 100A/101A
Econ 100B/101B
Math 54/H54
Math 55
UGBA 102A
UGBA 102B
Stat 20/21

Sem 1
(3)UGBA 102A - Phase 1
(4)Econ 101A - Phase 1
(4)Math 55/54 - Phase 1
???Another biz core??? Take 54 and 55???

(2) UGBA 199 - URAP

Sem 2
(3)UGBA 102B - Phase 1
(4)Econ 101B -Phase 1
(4)Stat 20/21 - Phase 1
(4)Math 55/54 - Phase 2

(2) UGBA 199 - URAP

Thanks!!

Math H54 appears to be less likely to get full than 54 or 55.

You are going to want to phase 1 any business courses - in terms of priority, I’d phase 2 the econ 100/101 series and math 54/55 classes for the classes you can’t fit in Phase 1. Also, you want to think about if you’ll be able to do well in those courseloads each semester in order to avoid any GPA risk in order to maximize your chance of getting into Haas.

^ That’s one thing I’m worried about!..I heard the finance courses are really just hit or miss. Like you’re really good at the really specific calculations or not, so I don’t know how that’s going to go.

Will the fact that I’m taking Haas courses make up for anything?

@ucbalumnus I may audit the honors course (like I’m doing now), but the workload in them just seems like too much for me to actually take them for a grade.

The balance between just applying the formulas and the underlying understanding of UGBA 103, which is essentially an introduction to finance, will depend on your professor. I’d say that, given your math background, you may find it easier than the average student in the class. That being said, Haas classes are notoriously competitive, so it may be difficult to do well. From what I understand, Haas does like to see applicants taking Haas classes to some degree since it reflects interest in the classes and, indirectly, in the major, but above all else (at least in terms of class selection), they want to see a good GPA. Since everybody has different strengths and weaknesses, it’s hard for me to definitively describe your schedule as easy or hard, but I’d certainly be careful taking schedules with that number of technical/difficult classes.

hmmm…that’s true…I honestly think if it’s just technical, I should be able to manage…hopefully? I have no idea what else to take and I don’t want to take anymore busy work/breadth courses for now. I also just hate reading (well, being forced to read things and spit stuff back up)…which is making me consider switching to something more applied, or just dropping business altogether :/

What other Haas courses would be good to take in advance? Is it best for 102a/b to be taken in order?
