is this schedule better?

why early? AH, I see, so you won't have to get up?? Is the lecture straight from the book or something? Even though, we are paying lots of money to go to Duke, so it would be pointless to skip class because you are wasting money.

a couple of things

lecture slides were put online and although most people do go, it is not necessary if you have the discipline to teach yourself from the slides and the book. I know several people that did just fine - got As - by doing this. Also, it depends on your background in chemistry.

I agree with the paying lots of money point, but for example I got more out of my Econ 51 class last spring by NOT going. The lectures were recorded and put online and navigating them was a breeze. It was possible to pause, repeat, reference a past lecture, ect, while listening to them. On average the 75 minute lectures took me about 90 minutes to get through. It is possible to do approximately the same with lecture slides in chem. I really recommend going to lectures at first and getting a feel for them before making a decision. I was told that the lectures were slow paced and the slides outlined everything you needed to know.

Right-- I agree. Go at first, see if it's really helpful or if it's not -- and what's going to help you learn best. I've been in situations where in lectures, profs made everything available online and sometimes it made more sense for me to go through it at my own pace and then ask a TA to clarify. I don't consider that a waste of money since I found something that worked better -- and I was also using that time for soemthing productive, whether it be studying or catching up on sleep or writing a paper...

sleeeeping :) :) :) :) :)
