Scheduling help

Hi! I was wondering if someone could help me out with a few questions.

1) How much do colleges look at foreign languages? Is it ok to take it 2 years till French III and stop?
2) My schedule for junior year is in the works at the moment. Each AP class is 2 semesters and regular class is 1. We have a total of 8 blocks or 2 semesters with 4 classes each semesters. I have trouble fitting everything in so somethign has to come out.

So far for certain:
AP Calc ABC (2 sem)
AP Chem (2 sem)

The ones up in the air:
AP Lang (2 sem -- if I don't take it I take modern american lit which is a regular 1 sem class)
AP US Gov & Ptix (2 sem)
French IV

I dunno which one I should take out and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. T

3) I am trying to optimize my course selection and don't know if 3 or 4 APs will really make that much of a difference my junior year. To give a general background, I am a sophmore taking all the honors possible at my school and am self-studying AP US History. Thanks,

I strongly suggest continuing in at least one language throughout high school, especially if the subject comes fairly easily to you. My school has a 3 year minimum language requirement, but about 95% of the students continue their language for the full four years into the highest class they can take, with many doubling in another language. Our school encourages the study of languages, and from what I have discerned from interviews and info sessions, colleges - for the most part - do as well. Also, you won't have to worry about any curriculum requirement when you apply to colleges.

If you are a reasonably good writer and enjoy reading but don't particularly love the subject, I would drop the AP Language (a lot of focus on rhetorical devices, non-fiction autobiography genre stuff, at least at my school), but only if you take the AP Literature course your senior year. From my experience, colleges don't really like giving English credit for AP English, but I believe that the top schools generally expect their students to have taken at least one and preferrably both AP offerings in high school.

I think AP Gov't is a helpful and informative class, and if you like politics, go for it :D

My college counselor NEVER lets anyone drop a language junior year. It's a red flag. Just keep taking it. And if you're concerned about APs then by achieving a higher level you'll be able to take more.
