Going into my junior year, my schedule is the following:
IB Bio HL (Two-Year)
AP Calc AB (self studying for BC component)
AP Statistics
Gym/Theory of Knowledge
IB English HL (Two-Year)
IB Italian Ab Initio (Two-Year)
IB History of the Americas HL (Two-Years)
Is my schedule rigorous enough for ivy leagues and universities like Tufts?
I am also going to self study for AP US History the same year
Are you doing a diploma programme? You have 3 HL, but don’t you need 6 subjects total, so 2 more SLs? But yeah, combined with APs, it should be.
You don’t need to self study BC nor to take Statistics. You should consider ap stats like any elective. Are there SL or AP classes you’d rather take beside stats?
Well my options in my school are rather limited. Since my school doesn’t offer IB Math HL, I want to self study the BC component – for the same reason, I am taking AP Stats. Also, I frankly love math, so yeah.
Senior year i will be taking two SLs (IB Math Studies SL and IB Physics SL for the diploma requirement). I also plan on self studying for the AP Physics 1 exam as well.
My school only has 4 AP classes to choose from (I took both AP Chem and World History sophomore year). On the IB side, the other electives available are IB Psych, IB Anthropology, and IB Business Management (all SLs) , none of which appeal to me.
Ok, self studying BC and taking Stats because you love math makes sense!
You don’t need to take Math Studies if you took Calc BC! Math Studies is math for kids whose academic strengths lie outside of math. Does your school offer Math SL (not to be confused with Math Studies SL)? If they don’t it’s offered online, as well as HL - Math SL its basically Calc AB with some stats thrown in. Youl could see if you can take Math HL online as one of your HL’s or as an extra HL. Taking IB Physics SL is a good idea, too, since you love math
and taking the AP Physics 1 exam is a good idea too. IB Anthropology or IB Psych would be very interesting when paired with IB Bio HL, I think.
My school only offers IB Math Studies SL, not Math SL unfortunately. I will speak to my counselor about taking HL or SL online. If I have enough time (since I will be doing a lot of E.C.s on the side), I will probably pick up a pysch book and self study for AP Psych. Thanks for your imput!!
See if your GC would allow you to do Math HL online after Calc BC, as it’d be the normal progression for someone who loves math.
@MYOS1634 Math HL and Calc BC are both offered at my school and if you take one, you can’t take the other because the content is effectively the same (the same teacher uses similar materials for both), only that Math HL has stat and a few select topics thrown in that could be covered in a month. I was going to suggest seeing if multivariable calculus is an option, such as through Stanford Online, CTY, or another organization. IB Further Maths could be another.
