I was accepted into the college of arts and sciences with a major in medicine, health, and society. Possibly pre-med or business for graduate. I am having second thoughts towards more of the human and organizational development major because it might benefit my interests more. I was just wondering if anyone could provide a sample schedule of classes for the first semester of a freshman for either of these majors.

The human and organizational development major is not offered in the college of arts and science. It is offered through the peabody college. Were you thinking of trying to transfer to peabody?

yes I know that, that's why I was asking for a smaple schedule of each.

You can also get a minor from Peabody in Managerial Studies ... kind of combining the best of both worlds. My suggestion would be to look through the courses & see what interests you most. You can always talk to someone from Vandy about this ... they are there to help!

I dont undestand how it will help you to get a schedule of a freshman, a freshman schedule is going to be a majority of the core liberal arts requirments for either one of those majors.

If you are premed your course schedule will probably be BSCI 110A/B, CHEM 102A/B, CALC 150 or 155 A/B, bio and chem labs, and a freshman writing seminar

^Highly recommend against this.

It's definitely doable

doable yes, worth the pain? no.

w/e obviously I'm not going to win this "argument" The poster asked for a sample premed schedule, and that's what it is. I went through it myself and actually enjoyed the classes and the challenge.

The schedule that silversparkles18 mapped out certainly is challenging, but many freshman do it. Be aware that BSCI 110 and Chem 150 are weed out classes.

Personally, this is what I would suggest you take next fall:
- MHS 201: Fundamental Issues in Medicine, Health, and Society
- Math 150 or 175, depending on your current level of calculus study
- Chem 102A or Bsci 110A + the corresponding lab and recitation
- Econ 100. (We obviously don't have an undergraduate business school, but many economics majors end up getting jobs and later going on to business school.)
- Freshman writing seminar

I would not suggest taking a Peabody HOD course next fall. Take advantage of a full semester in A&S and, if you are still unsure, add an HOD class to your spring 2009 course load to see if you like it. You will find that HOD and Peabody professors as a whole have very different teaching styles than A&S professors. You might love that style, or you might hate it.

I assume you will attend SAOP this summer; make sure you attend your pre-freshman advisor meeting and discuss your options.

thank you soo much vandy08 thats very helpful that seems like more of a courseload that I could handle. I really appreciate everyones input... well see what happens. But would you recommend taking a math and science together the first semester? and which sciences are more difficult or easier?

You're very welcome.

If you are even remotely considering premed, you should take a math and science together first semester. First semester freshman year I took Math 150A and Chem 102A to fulfill core requirements and I received an "A" in both classes. Trust me. It's doable - this, coming from an English major.

As far as which science is easier: different students will give you different opinions. In the end, neither one is necessarily more conceptually difficult than the other. You'll mostly encounter difficulty in that 1/4 of the freshman class enters premed and, like you, they are all vying for a spot on the curve. (That is not to discourage you.)
