How far along in completing the mymit RA application must I be prior to scheduling the EC interview? Can I schedule the interview before the December 10th deadline so long as i have the mymit account created? Or does it all need to be complete before scheduling? Thank you.

My D scheduled (and had) the interview before completing the application. She only entered name, address etc. at that point. She didn’t do any of the essays or answer questions about a major.

Basically, as an interviewer, I always recommend scheduling the interview, when you are ready to have the interview. Know enough about yourself and about MIT to be able to carry on a conversation. Don’t ask, as one student did some years back “Does MIT offer an accounting major”. Know at some level why MIT is of interest to you. And then schedule the interview. It does not matter if the rest of the paperwork is done.

@green678 and @Mikalye Thank you very much. I visited MIT last summer and enjoyed the Professor’s presentation and the student-led tour very much. My computer science goals are pretty clear. The trick with the “Why MIT” question is that there’s sooo much going on it’s hard to say what’s most interesting among the hundreds of remarkable projects going on. <a href=“Computer science and technology | MIT News | Massachusetts Institute of Technology”>http://newsoffice.mit.edu/topic/computers

@Mikalye This is so true. I did my MIT interview before submitting any of my apps. Now, after about 20 essay questions about myself, I think I would do a lot better on the interview with questions like “why should MIT choose me?” or “why MIT?”. Doing apps really helped me discover what I am looking for…
