is it possible to schedule few or no classes on friday? how many hours a day/week are there of classes generally?

It's technically feasible - it just depends on what types of classes you have to take and how well you plan out your schedule. Last fall (my first semester), I only had one section at noon on Friday's and this semester, I have absolutely nothing on Friday's. However, having Friday's completely free is not that common, though many people will have "lighter" Thursdays and Fridays.

Most people will find having no classes on Fridays difficult to accomplish because for engineers, Physics for Physical Science majors/Engineers meets Thursday and Friday mornings. For Arts and Science students, many of the A&S classes are also on a ThF schedule. I won't even be able to keep my Friday's free next semester (fall of sophomore year) - I'm taking some humanities classes that meet ThF. However, I have worked out my schedule so that I have Monday afternoon completely free, so I'm hoping to get involved in lab research.

As for daily class time, I would guesstimate that most people have roughtly 3-4 hours of class per day.

I haven't had a class on Friday for 4 semesters now, come to think of it the only classes I ever had on Friday was Physics 1 and 2, and math sections. For the past 2 semester I haven't even had class on Thursday, life has been good.

It is more typical for engineers to have fewer classes on Thursday or Friday, but the school is toying with the idea of changing the scheduling to MWF which would pretty much guarantee that you always have a Friday class.

Generally speaking you have 1 hour of class for every credit that you are taking, so typically between 15-18 hours of class per week.
