Scholar Bowl/Quiz Bowl/Academic Team

Anybody do it at their school? What subjects do you cover?

Yea, I do Academic Decathlon. We do all the subjects. Me personally, I focus on science, economics, and music.

I do it. We’re all expected to pretty much know all areas, but we can have bests. My best areas are arts and literature.

Hecks yea. I’m best at pop culture, those I’m also good at some history. and random all-around stuff. I actually parlayed my skills into forming a successful Mellow Mushroom Trivia team (we’ve won 2 weeks in a row, making it 3 tomorrow)

yeah I do quiz bowl. we don’t really specialize too much, but my area is history/current events/geography.

anyone else going to the MIT meet on saturday?

nope, but we have new jersey states on march 21st

I just have tons of random crap stuffed in my head, so I have some weaknesses, but no particular strengths. As much as I hate to sound arrogant, I think that I’m pretty strong in almost anything.

Is anyone else going to the NAQT nationals in late May?

The ones in Chicago the weekend of May 29th? We’re going to those, but I don’t know if I’ll be playing though I’ll definitely be there. I might just be hanging out with my sister at Northwestern, because I’m just JV and they usually don’t put us in during important stuff unless victory is certain.
We’ve won all our games this season, so we’re going to regionals too.

yeah we qualified for the NAQT HSNCT, now we’re just trying to get our B team to qualify too. i’m a geography/science guy

I do Academic Decathlon. I have to study for all of the subjects :frowning: since I’m captain. It’s fun except when I stay up till 2:00 reading packets, making practice tests and schedules, the team members don’t even study, and I feel like I"m wasting my time.

our team qualified for the nationals in Chicago too but we can’t go because it’s the same weekend as graduation :(

Quiz Bowl!
I do geography, biology/chemistry, and music, with some literature and current events thrown in. Occasionally, I get a history or sports question.

HOW do you guys study? just read packets? wikipedia? or actually read books?

Quiz Bowl, Brain Game, WorldQuest, stuff like that yeah

Reading Wikipedia is good. Sporcle also helps a lot, too.

I’m a Quiz Bowl girl! We do everything; I have a specialization within the team in that I’m the European history/literature/geography girl.

States are April 23 and 24! I can’t wait!

For Academic Decathlon, nothing beats reading the packets. If you’re not reading USAD, DemiDec, Acalon or some other AcaDeca-focused material, you’re wasting your time.

Unless, god forbid, you’re actually interested in the subject.

hahaha i do admit, i’m not really INTERESTED in many of the topics, but they’re there anyway. for example, architecture isn’t anyone’s “favorite”, but we all try to cover that.

are there any resources ONLINE that are available for free? the only ones i can think of are sporcle (thanks) and quizbowlpackets.com

anyone here qualify for NTAE nationals? (formerly known as panasonic)
My school qualified, so we’re going to disney world in June, woo. (Should be fun even though the format of the questions at the contest is not that great)
