So, I'm going to apply to UTD, but I'm wondering what my chances are of getting a scholarship, preferrably Distinction or Honors. Here are my stats:

Ethnicity: African-American
GPA: 3.74 out of 4.0
All AP or adv. classes
Rank: 76 out of 561
SAT: 1960 total, 1300 CR+M
Extracurriculars: President, Vice President, Social Director, Reporter, Representative, and school ambassador leadership positions held in high school, NHS, SSA, HOSA, community service, summer job for 4 summers also.

And also, when is the best time to apply? and when would I hear if I got a scholarship or not?

I’m not URM with similar GPA, slightly higher SAT, but fewer impressive ECs and I was just offered an Academic Honors Scholarship. It includes (for me, apparently some of it changes student-to-student) complete coverage of tuition and fees, $1500 towards housing, and a $2000 stipend.

Also, I applied way early (everything was in by September 28th) and was automatic thanks to ACT/SAT scores, but I would apply as soon as possible. I got my acceptance on October 8th, but I didn’t get any financial offer until last week. Good luck!

to littlejess ( or someone knew his/her scholarship) : Where did you find the information of your scholarship? I only realized that I was admitted by the status ( orion website - about 1 week ago). There is no email or mail notifying the acceptance as well as the scholarship.
One more question: Do I need to click on the accept admission button to be considered for scholarship? And Does that (click accept) means that I will definitely go to UTD this fall?
Thank you!

A few months after my acceptance, I got a financial aid offer in the mail. You don’t have have to click ‘accept’ because that’d mean you’re definitely attending in the fall.

Son just got academic scholarship in the mail today. Full tuition and fees, 3k housing/yr, 5k cash/yr (obviously the rest of housing), 2k one time for study abroad. All 8 semesters included. Has to name UTD as first choice.

A question, though: From UTD’s scholarship website I do not see what your son received. The closest is: “Academic Excellence Scholarship for National Merit Scholars: Tuition and mandatory fees + $2,000 Housing + $5,000 Expense for 4 years.”

Is the above what your son got? Or has he got McDermott? McDermott should give more of extra for cultural experience and research stuff, I thought?? I am just curious as I am waiting for my result…

Just got an email: Full Tuition + $3,000 Housing + $4,000 Expense!
SATI 2290
SATII math800, chem780, physics 800, korean 800
AP (all self-study): four 5s on math/sci tests

Very excited and ‘seriously’ considering attending. I had not known of McDermott and missed its deadlines even tho I was qualified since November last year, which I have resented a lot. But this aid is fine… Best of luck to you all!!

Yea, thats what the award was. I noticed it didn’t match up perfectly with any they had on the web site. I guess they wiggle around those amounts some. He was a National Merit Finalist.
…And thank you very much. Most importantly, he’s a good kid (I’ll brag on both my kids all day.)
