Scholars and Flexus

I'm going to CP next year and I will be majoring in mechanical engineering. I got into the college park scholars program, and I want to apply to Flexus LLP. Between these two LLPs which one should I live with, Scholars or Flexus?

When I went to the engineering program preview last year, one of the girls on the panel actually spoke about this dilemma, but regarding honors v flexus housing. She chose flexus because the camaraderie/support among the female engineers living together was important to her and was very happy with her choice. So, that speaks to going with flexus housing. Also, fyi, Easton is air-conditioned.

On the flip side, there are plenty of engineers living in scholars (not as many female engineers, obviously) for academic support and more non-engineering females for camaraderie. The advantage to scholars is location. This is the high-rise community that is closest to all the engineering/science/math buildings plus is next to Eppley Rec Center. Down side is not all buildings are air-conditioned there just yet (there are rumors of more being installed this summer, but no guarantees).

So, something to think about, depending on what is most important to you. I know that the male version (virtus) has a residential requirement, but I think flexus makes exception for scholars/honors students - something you should confirm before making your decision. I think it is a tough call - given how few female engineers there are, I personally might lean toward flexus housing, but the convenience to scholars housing is hard to ignore…

Even though I can’t help you per se, hope this info helps clarify some of the questions. I don’t think you can make a wrong choice. Choosing Maryland was already the smartest choice! ;)
