Has anyone attended this in the past or know anything about it? I could attend but want to make sure it's worth it to fly out. Is there anything at Scholars Day that isn't at a Meet Mizzou Day, which I attended in February?

Any insight anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

Check with the admissions office and just ask what's on the agenda. They're very helpful. Meet Mizzou Day seemed pretty thorough, so I can't imagine what else you'd need to know (except what the campus is like when the weather is hot and humid).

Steelerfan, have you only gone to Mizzou on a Meet Mizzou day? If you have not made a separate, more personal tour, I would recommend you wait and do that in the fall while classes are in session. That way, you could meet personally with the Honors head, the Journalism people, sit in on a class, etc. Just tailor a day to your interests and meet personally with people rather than the huge cattle call days. Mizzou is very helpful in scheduling a personal day for you.

Thanks for the advice guys. geezermom, I agree about Meet Mizzou Day being very helpful, and that definitely contributed to me not being sure about attending. It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to go anyway because I'm going to visit UNC that day b/c we'll be on vacation near that area.

mizzou mom, I am definitely going to do an overnight stay/personal visit like you described at some point. Just for future reference, when I go to schedule this visit, should I just call the admissions office or is there a place on the website that I can go to schedule that type of visit?

Thanks again for both of your help, both in this thread and overall.

Yes, just call admissions, they will handle everything. With the three kids, I never ran into a school that was as helpful and accommodating as Mizzou. My D is doing wonderfully there and the J-School is unbelievably great. All that they promise and more!

I’m also a Mizzou mom- my son is a Mizzou junior, and Scholars Day is what sold him on the school. He LOVES life at Mizzou and in Columbia! Scholars Day is unique because it focuses on the academic (and other opportunities) available through the Honors College, which are quite impressive. But if you can’t make it to Scholars Day, you can arrange an individual appointment with the Honors College when you do any Mizzou campus visit. Just ask for this when you make your visit arrangements with the admissions office. My son did Scholars Day first and then a personal viisit in the fall. There are several things my son loves about Mizzou’s Honors College- terrific advising for freshman and sophomores (before you get into your major sequence), unique & interesting courses, and small classes of about 20 or so that are taught by great profs. He has also taken Honors sections of larger J-school classes, and he has had the professor of the class for the smaller recitation classes, instead of a TA. He has been very happy with his choice of Mizzou, and so have I!! The J- school is truly amazing. Good luck with your search…
