so… scholar’s day was a bit disappointing. yes, we were told that we were admitted, but the presentations weren’t all that great and it happend to be freezing and raining. not like san diego at all. apparently we showed up on the second time its rained since july. it also didn’t help that my student tour guide wasn’t that enthusiastic about the school. i guess i was a bit turned off by the 6 college system. it seems that the campus is very divided and isolated because of it. on the other hand, i was very impressed with the biology labs and facilities. all in all, my general impression is that UCSD is a good school, but you really need the incentive and motivation to go take full advantage of it.

i visited the UCLA campus the following morning and loved it. i also happend to find out that i had been admitted while i was on campus. looks like i have a difficult decision ahead of me. i feel blessed that i have such great choices to pick from. i really didn’t expect to be admitted to either of these schools (i’m out of state).

UCSD:
pros-
-beautiful city, usually beautiful weather
-great neighborhood (la jolla)
-the beach is right across the street
-one of the best bio programs offered anywhere
-i was born on campus and my dad is an alumn, so i guess i feel some sort of connection

cons-
-isolation due to college system
-student body seems purely interested in studying
-modern campus made of glass and concrete, seems more like a research park than a school
-not much school spirit and cohesion

UCLA:
pros-
-3 years guarenteed housing
-aparently the food is excellent
-great campus and vibe
-diverese student body
-great neighborhood (westwood/bel air)
-umm… it’s UCLA!

cons-
-south campus (where the sciences are) is a bit dinky
-LA can get pretty nasty (smog, traffic)
-huge student body

anyways, just my two cents.
