Scholars' Day

stuey, I doubt it. You're still at the top of the applicant pool no matter what. If you're still anxious, you could definitely just call up the UCSD office and ask.

I doubt it will hurt you if you can't attend.

it won't hurt you, for sure.

Still a good experience if you can make it.

Did anyone who applied to the Engineering school get in?

hey guys good job on getting in here and getting invited to go to scholars day! i wasnt invited so im not really sure exactly what it is, but ill be there talking about it for marshall students. its basically an event where were going to tell you how fabulous it is here, and give you a chance to check out the scenery and ask any questions you may have. no worries if you cant go, but its going to be pretty cool. its a good event to get your feel for this place and meet a lot of current students (like me haha) to get that insider's take. hope that helped. =)

awesome i got it too!
but i don't think i'll be able to make it unfortunately >.<
fyi, uw is 4.0, but got no idea what my UC gpa is haha
CR 800 Math 790 WR 800 total 2390

oo wait is there another weekend we can visit UCSD if we can't attend the scholars day?

yes there is! i believe admit day is the third saturday of april (4/18/09) and that weekend there's most likely going to be the first ever overnight stay program (osp) spanning from saturday to monday for scholars

I got the letter but I don't think I can make it, it's on a friday. I applied to the engineering department and my SAT is 2250. My GPA is around 4.2

you can come any weekend, lol..but i would come on a friday/monday/weekday, because they give tours and information sessions then, the information it probably on the school webpage for prospective students

i agree. i wish i had visited more colleges when i had the chance. i think itll be really cool if you like, just entered a lecture hall and saw what it was all about. im going to be a host for scholars day overnight, i or anyone else can tell you the wheres and whens for that stuff. and fyi its quiet on weekends, so thats kind of parent-friendly; easy to just explore.

Is anyone else receiving emails from specific colleges regarding Scholar's Day? I've gotten 2 from Warren.

I feel really guilty about not going to scholars day. I've gotten 2 emails from a current senior. One letter from the admissions office, one letter from the jacobs school of engineering,, and two emails from warren. I just got a call from a current student or something a few minutes ago.

I totally want to go but its a 400+ mile drive, so that would be like : leave friday, leave saturday, get home sunday. No time with 5 ap classes. >_>

^ tkd, don't feel guilty! ucsd is just doing a heck of a good job at being so personal! i'm really impressed with the phone calls, emails, letters.
and i hear you on the 5 ap classes. fun, huh? :-)

will not being able to attend Scholar's Day reflect negatively on apps?

@ montecristo09 - that question was answered a few days ago. reading the entire thread is a good thing. and the answer is "no."

You can get Regents if you did not get Scholars' Day, this was true for a friend of mine who applied for bioengineering which I assume gets a lot of strong applicants.

I don't think it's possible since Scholars' Day scholars are selected from the top 4%(roughly) of the applicant pool and Regents Scholars are selected from the top 1%(roughly) of the same pool. The selection criteria should be the same for both.
It's possible to be a med scholar and not a Scholars' Day scholar and vice versa since the selection criteria are different.

Has anyone who registered for Scholars' Day received a confirmation email? Because I registered on the 13th but yesterday I got a phone call from UCSD reminding me to register...so I re-registered just to be safe but I'm not sure.

oops sorry XP will be sure to read next time
