Scholars' Day

Some people at my school got one, but I haven’t received one. :(

Congrats to everyone who received an invitation!

I haven’t received a confirmation email for registering either. Maybe they don’t have one?

I haven’t received a confirmation email either.

But I doubt I’m going all the way over there just to be told that I didn’t RSVP and can’t attend.

Is it harder to get in certain colleges with certain majors? I applied to Muir as a biology major and I am ANXIOUSLY waiting for an acceptance letter, hopefully.

Biology is an impacted major at UCSD and from what I read on the website, they posted that only 700-ish students would be accepted under the impacted majors. This therefore means that the cutoff will be higher for these students. Correct me if I’m wrong.

So if I don’t get in the biology, can I still get in as my second choice? My second choice is biochem, which is probably also impacted. Could I still get in as undeclared?

I got this from the UCSD site:

“Impacted majors for freshmen:
Bioengineering
Bioengineering: Biotechnology
Biology
If you are an incoming freshman applying to one of these majors, you must also select an alternate major that is not impacted on your UC application. These decisions will not affect your admission to UCSD, and you could be admitted into either major.”

Darn pre-meds.

I quit the idea of being a doctor. =P I want to enjoy life. Not study science (my least favorite subject).

I love biology but I don’t want to be a doctor. It annoys me that when I tell people that I want to do biological research, they for some reason perceive it as “Oh, so you want to be a doctor/study medicine?”

Haha. My parents are from Pakistan (technically a country in Asia) so they’ve been brainwashed to believe that in order to be successful, you MUST be a doctor. However, I want to be a professor in psychology and do research/teach. :)

Haha. Yeah, I’m half Asian, half white, and my parents want me to be an engineer or a doctor. I want to do research, but I wouldn’t make a good teacher.

Haha. Doctor/Engineer = blah. I took AP Bio and got owned by it. I just want to get away from home. Hence, why I want to go to UCSD. Hopefully we both get in! :D

I LOVED AP Bio. I read an entire Intro to Bio text book over the summer to prepare for it. And the Campbell’s text book became my bible. But yes, I want to get away from LA and study marine biology at SD so I’m really nervous, bordering on hyperventilating!

Hahaha. You nerd! I avoided that textbook like the plague! I got a 1 on the exam, also, and I’m damn proud of it. Got a B in the class though with little work. =)

I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area. My parents would like me to stay close to home, but I’d like to go to SoCal.

I got a 5 and am damn proud! Haha. And I ruined the curve for everyone in my class!
I really want to visit SF, but SD is an amazing city, haven’t seen the college yet. My dad wants me to commute to LA, but I don’t think I’ll get in and I live an hour away. -_-

I could never commute. I need the full college experience.

Exactly. Which is why SD is my top choice! That and they are home to the country’s best grad school for marine sciences. And I won’t get into Cal/LA anyways.

(: You musn’t assume anything. Who knows.

But you should get into UCSD though, assuming you added your points correctly. Assuming I added mine correctly, I should have a chance also (hopefully).

Are you ELC?
