Scholars Floor?

For anyone that lived on the scholars floor or knew people who did: were the people who chose the scholars floor chill? I'm seriously considering UCSB but I need to know I can find people who are very serious about studying, excelling academically, and able to be in an intelligent conversation, yet they are mature, laid back, and chill enough where they want to party sometimes and venture out into santa barbara and have fun on the weekends! I want to live on the scholars floor so I make friends with people who are serious about their studies but I don't want to be stuck in my room on the weekends!

there are a lot to ask for, NO ???

what?? haha. im confused… are you saying that’s a lot to ask for in people because i know a bunch of people like that. maybe that’s just where I live? (socal)

I live in the scholars floor right now.

Yes, people are chill. Yes people drink and smoke. Yes people party on the scholars floor.

Though, my floor probably consumes more cannabis than several other floors combined rofl

Yes, people are smart, and yes, they are regular people as well.

if you want a boring floor. apply for the sub-free floor. I heard nobody in that floor parties, or even drinks, at all.

What exactly is the sub-free floor ?

Substance-free no alcohol/drugs etc

why do I want to drink or do drugs ??? I don’t want anyone to take advantage of me !!!

all I want to do at UCSB is to study and find a cute girlfriend !!!

distorted- that’s exactly what I’m looking for. I hope there are going to be similar people next year
Also, 1) are you guys really competitive w each other? and 2) were there a lot of people that weren’t admitted into the honors program that were able to be on the scholars floor?

leakers- then ask for the substance-free floor haha.

are all rooms same sex ???

yeah I’m pretty sure but correct me if I’m wrong that all rooms are same sex for sure (unless there’s like gender-neutral housing) and all members within your area or suite are same sex, but people on your floor vary.

I’m certain that all rooms are same sex, but the floors and dorms are coed (unless you request to be with only men/women, then i think there is a floor for you). I know in some dorms all the guys are on one side and the girls on the other side. My friend is in the substance free hall and she really likes it, however, I’ve heard that people get fined for drinking and everyone is back in their dorms around 11…I don’t want that lol, I don’t need a curfew and I want to be able to drink if I wanted to (but I probably wouldn’t want to).

I’m not in the honors program but I’d really like to stay in the scholars floor. I think you can request it and if they have room, they’ll put you in it.

There are no co-ed rooms but the floors are co-ed. I was actually wondering the some thing about the scholars floor. I don’t want to be stuck with a total dud for a roommate.

That’s what it sounds like to me tsilva

yeah I was definitely concerned haha. I hope they can accommodate us!!!

i hope so too! i guess just turn in your housing application asap so you’re on top of their list.

yeah, I’m going to Spring Insight. Hopefully I fall in love with everything!!! :(

They’re housing isn’t first come first served. They do it randomly so it doesn’t matter when you turn it in.

ohh okay. that’s good to know
what is spring insight? is that the open house thing on 4/9

Yeah I thought that’s how it would be. Do you guys know how many scholars floors there are through out all the housing areas? I don’t think there’s just one, is there?
