Scholars Preview Program

I don’t understand how they distributed the funds for travel either. I called and they said they would let me know if they could pay for me but i got tired of waiting and just asked a friend for a buddy pass (free ticket).
My other friend managed to get a ticket from UPenn a few hours ago so just keep calling!

I’m from ATL and I emailed the local alumni secondary school committee about tickets. They didn’t have funds but they were nice about it. I guess it depends on who you talk to. I ended up getting Amtrak tix cause they’re much much less

kayb92 - yes, son will be coming from California. He’s returning from Boston today (another college visit). He didn’t need a sleeping bag at other college…might think of a sleep sack (like an insert/blanket) as the weather looks pretty warm anyways.

And I emailed and emailed and finally found the person who could get him a ticket. By that time, had tightened the belt and purchased the ticket. But am pretty sure they are going to reimburse. Didn’t want him to miss the chance to visit.

I got the email, too. AAAAH!

Nervous/Excited/whee!

Scholars Preview is tomorrow!! (:
So, what did everyone pack?

Nothing yet! Got everything laid out on my bed right now, haha.

Haha, me neither lol. I just got all the papers together. But I pretty much know what I’m gonna bring

Just finished packing. I officially have a beef with the TSA- I felt like I was playing Tetris with my toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, etc! My bag was, admittedly, about half an inch on each side away from being a quarter bag…but still.

I’m just bringing jeans, two jackets, and three shirts. Plus a pair of sneakers, plus some nicer shoes and a dress for the dinner. Camera, cellphone, stuff like that.

I’m trying to pack super, super light because I don’t really know what to expect from the airport…meep!

Son got sick yesterday and isn’t able to go…ahhhh! Make sure you post how it was.

It was awesome!

First day, we got there and it was raining. Still, the campus was beautiful. At some point I heard a girl scream “this looks like Hogwarts!” which I thought was really funny, but also pretty accurate! We went to Houston Hall to get our hosts assigned and to hear a speech on staying safe and having fun at Penn. There were people handing out some nice gym bags, water bottles with the Penn logo on them, our bracelets for getting into the dorms, and a big folder with our schedules and information. We went to a talent show and got to see some of the dance and acapella groups at Penn. Also, I think one spoken word group and…gah, I can’t even remember everything!

Second day it was still raining. We got to sit in whatever classes we wanted. I went to a 200 level class but I actually didn’t feel lost. The teacher was pretty good and seemed to understand that people in that class had different backgrounds with the content, so he made sure to point out that he had posted some help online, and that he had office hours available. That’s always a big plus because I’ve met teachers who are not willing to put themselves out there to help students. Afterwards there were information sessions related to the school you picked (College, SEAS, Wharton, or Nursing). Then they had activities which included a scavenger hunt, and afterwards a fancy-ish dinner with the Dean of Admissions. That night they also hosted a party for the Scholars.

The third day it was not raining and the campus was a million times more beautiful! There were not all that many activities because people were leaving at different times, but still you could choose to go visit more classes, explore Philly, tour the Gayborhood, or talk to Financial Aid people.

Sounded fun. We are heading to Philly tomorrow so that S can go to Mondays preview. He really liked Babson when he went there so he wants to see how he feels at UPenn. Thanks!

So, how did your son like penn? :)
