How does Scholars Enginerring program compared to the Honors/Meyerhoff for computer engineering in UMBC.
I go to UMD and I’ve never heard of a scholars engineering program. There is the College Park Scholars, but they cover more broad topics and are not major specific.
Ok, assuming your son was admitted to the College Park Scholars and the Clark School of Engineering. College Parkk Scholars is a two-year program that is just a way to augment their education. It is a nice extra but not a huge deal per se - one extra class a semester, with the two years culminating in a choice of a research project or a student-teaching-mentorship experience or an internship (student’s choice), plus trips to some neat places that you wouldn’t normally have access to (the venue depends on the program - ie STS goes to Army Research Lab, for example). No clue what the Meyerhoff is, so can’t compare programs…?
However, if you are looking for prestige, there is a departmental engineering honors program that you can apply to as a junior, which is the one that gives you the “Engineering Honors” on your actual diploma. The honors college that freshman are admitted to does NOT earn that notation on the diploma. It earns a citation on their transcript, as does the scholars program. If you want the citation on your diploma, it is based on what you do academically at the college level. Here is the info on that http://www.eng.umd.edu/current/honors-program
Yes, it is Clark School of Engineering. DS is debating between UMD and UMBC… as he got scholarship from UMBC.
