So I just found out that I got into the Scholar's Program and I didn't even know there was one. Can anybody tell me information about the program and the advantages of being in it? Also does anybody know how one is selected to be in it? Thanks!

I am deciding between three colleges and this just made my decision a lot harder so any information would be great.

I have no personal experience, but I assume you have or will check out the NCSU website and read the FAQ’s about the various academic excellence programs:
[North Carolina State University :: Academic Excellence Programs](Undergraduate Education | NC State University)

Hey, I am going to be a freshman next year and was also invited into the Scholars program. Honestly, it seems pretty legit. Basically, scholars is for the academic achievers that also like to help their community and such. We will live in Sullivan hall which is in the middle of campus, so it is really nice considering we are freshman. Also, the dorms are suite style and rather large, 24-hour visitation, alcohol free, etc.

As university scholars, we are going to do a lot of “enrichment activities” that I am guessing are like group activities and discussions (think like seminar type discussion). We also have access to the honors classes!!! Which I think is a major perk. We have study abroad oppurtunities. The activities and stuff I think are optional to an extent, but you probably have to come to a certain amount to remain in scholars.

We are selected on three things: top five percent of class, gpa of 4.5 weighted and 3.9 unweighted, and an sat of 1300 minus the writing. Scholars have to meet two f those requirements.

I think it seems really fun, and I already accepted my invitation. Do it! Come to NC State and be a scholar. I was dead set on Virginia Tech, but State offers just as much with a broader local scene and it’s so much cheaper. State has won me over, so just check it out and do some research.

i was in the scholars this past year, and i’ll say it has good things and drawbacks. you go on enriching field trips, you get to register with the class ahead of you, you meet a bunch of new people, etc. unlike honors, which is more academic based, scholars is for more cultural experiences. i enjoyed some of the trips, and the forum had some interesting speakers. to remain a scholar, you have to go to 12 events each semester, and keep over a 3.25 to stay in. i’d recommend joining just to see if you like it, then deciding after the first semester if you want to drop, though you can drop at any time.

Would you mind elaborating on some of the drawbacks and sharing what your major is? Do you expect to continue in the program?

Based on your experience and observations, how important is it to live in the Scholars Living and Learning Community in Sullivan?
