Anyone here have any experience with the Scholars program? S received invite with his acceptance. It does seem like a really awesome opportunity, especially like the Masters option. Just curious if anyone here has any feedback?

Anyone? Anyone???

My son is in the program. He likes it so far. What do you want to know?

The requirements are that you take 2 one-credit honors seminars and 3 research seminars (all p/f). In return, you get priority registration for classes (along with athletes), research opportunities in the summer, and the option to take up to 4 free classes each summer.

You can also do a limited-version of co-op depending on how much you want to fit in. You can go for a double major or masters in 4 years (5 if you do coop). There is little downside to accepting it, and you can always opt out later if you find you don’t want to do it. But I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to.

Thanks @rualum! He is just trying to weigh all his options and figure out where he’s headed next year. The more info I can feed him, the better. I thought his Stevens offer was fantastic, but it caught HIM off-guard (I think he already had decided on anoterh school) and now he’s having to rethink alot of things.

Has he been for a campus visit? The thing I noticed on our visit was that the students were all very nice and willing to talk. Some spent a good amount of time answering all of our questions.

The atmosphere in general is very supportive and friendly. Advisors and deans are always available to the students to answer questions about their schedules/major/future planning.

Their website sucks though.

(I am going to pm you)

Do they have scholars housing and/or any activities that bring the scholars students together like at some other schools?

geekwriter there is no special housing which is unfortunate. My son only knows if people are in the scholars program if he sees them in his honors and research seminars. Otherwise, they don’t really get together.

Rualum: My D is considering combining Scholars with the Co-op. Do you have any experience / advice for this combination.

THANKS!!

Pharryn- my son is planning on doing both.

To fit in a masters/co-op within the 5 year time frame he will take some (free) summer classes and do 3 coop experience vs 5. (You need to do a miniumum of 3; I suppose you could fit in 4 depending on your course load.) He had a lot of AP credit going in so that helps to keep graduation on schedule. I think you could extend it to 6 years if you wanted to but he doesn’t want to be in school that long.
