Is there any way I can argue the amount of Scholarships that Rutgers is offering me? I only got $3,500 per year ($14,000 total). I was expecting a lot more than this. Is there any number I can all or someone I can email about this?

I’d like to know this too. A 2300 and 4.5 GPA, >top 5%, 9 APs, national level recognition in an EC, only got me $10K/yr at SAS NB. My HS doesn’t rank though. I would have thought this was enough for a Presidential.

gal1234, did you expect the Presidential from your stats? Were you A&S at New Brunswick? I think the cutoffs might depend on the school. I wonder what they actually are this year. Any scholarship is nice so congrats.

I had a superscored 2290 by Dec. 15, I think they got there before the deadline. I had 2260 before that. I have 3.96 UW GPA, I thought maybe I’d get the presidential.

Davinci–your stats are great–can’t believe you didn’t get the presidential.

DaVinci my S has comparable stats to you and his school does rank and he is 2nd in his class and he did not get the Presidential either-he got the same $10K for three of the NB schools.

He is OOS. The best thing about the presidential, in addition to the extra $, is the guaranteed housing and Honors College admission.

Pepper03, this will take Rutgers off my radar too. I have better offers elsewhere already. Do you think this has anything to do with when you apply? My app was a little delayed but it went in by the Dec 1 deadline.

Possibly-he also applied by the deadline but the SAT scores didn’t get there until 12/7 or so-very close to the 12/15 deadline. Are you OOS? Unlike our home state which is giving much more to OOS students than in state ones it looks like Rutgers is doing the opposite-which I can’t blame them for and is just a guess on my part because I do recall there have been OOS students getting these.

From what I read, most of the Presidential scholarships go to in state students. While they do give some to OOS, the vast majority are in state.

S got the scholarship email today. His stats are 2310 (superscored, 2300 single sitting), top 5% in school, in-state and we were expecting Presidential Scholarship. He is offered $10K per year each for business and arts and science and $3500 per year for Engineering. He was admitted within 5 days of his application. I don’t know what their scholarship decisions are based on.

He will also probably take Rutgers off his list. We were considering Rutgers as our financial safety and now this.

i got the scarlet scholarship for $3500/year ($14000 total), wanted a bit more though, i didnt file the FASA yet, but would that increase my chances fro another scholarship? my dad has a around a $100,000 yearly income, and need based-aid wud be hard to get, but i have a twin sibling enrolling with me, so thats double the tuition, so would i get any aid from FAFSA from that?

I’m thinking having a school that doesn’t rank or doesn’t give class size probably has an effect on whether the scholarship is received or not. It seems like everyone who expected one has a school that doesn’t rank. Also, maybe Rutgers has finally gone somewhat holistic and is looking at the activities (although I doubt that, since the space on the application is minimal) and the essay as well as just number-based statistics.

Interesting about the $10,000 scholarship- do you know what the name is for that one? I feel like Rutgers unfortunately has no in between as far as scholarships go, and simply to better their academic community, it would be good of them to offer more half-ride or $5000-6000 scholarships to students with good but not extrodinarily stellar grades and activities. My sister got the $3500 scholarship but will probably chose University of Maryland if admitted because for the quality of education and honors program there compared to Rutgers, it’s worth the extra $10,000.

Got my scholarships this morning. $10k for Arts and Sciences and Engineering, $3.5k at Pharmacy. School doesn’t officially rank but I’m not top 10%. 2350 SAT.

The $10k scholarship is called the James Dickson Carr Scholarship.
