UConn is one of those schools that doesn’t specify the amounts they give in certain kinds of scholarships. Does anyone know what range they give of merit scholarships to students? My stats are a 1450 sat and a 3.9 gpa and I applied for the MIS major. How much would be likely for me to receive? I’m wondering just in case I need to apply to a smaller state school to save money. Thank you!
@Hikarin. Sounds as if you are instate like us. You may very well be accepted to honors with your stats- hoping my D is also and that should get you some money. Don’t think that they are that generous to instate- I am thinking looking the last couple years posts maybe- $7,500 a year.
@Hikarin Just thought about your major- that must be considered STEM- I have heard (a couple of my friend’s kids) were accepted into STEM program ( a subset of honors) and did get larger amounts. I know one was $14,000 a year (think approximately tuition). My D applying to engineering so she is hoping to get in STEM.
UConn’s got a pretty vanilla approach to merit. Last year’s in-State honors students got $6,000. The do offer a few other merit scholarships (STEM, nutmeg) but those are offered to many fewer students. With your stats I think you would receive the $6,000. That said, that would bring the cost of attendance down to around $24,000 which is a nice price for a top notch education. Unless you are planning on commuting, I believe that the other state schools (CCSU, Eastern etc…) cost low $20k. If you are local, commuting to a UConn branch campus for a few years is a great option.
