Scholarship and Financial Aid Package Class 2024

If a student is awarded merit aid (with notices via snail mail), will the merit aid contemporaneously show up in the financial aid section of Buckeye Link? We’re in Massachusetts and haven’t received any notice re: Buckeye, etc., which makes me think that our student may not be getting any merit aid. :frowning:

I really hope these Buckeye scholarships start dribbling out faster now … checking mail every day …

@cek1975 bro same i would really like to get one so i can actually be able to afford this college

They told me would go through March the scholarships

Hi all

My S17 got admitted to OSU Columbus, got about 14K Merit award .

Just an FYI his stats were as below
Stats:-

OOS candidate ( NJ )
ACT 35.25 (Composite 35)
SAT II Math :- 800
SAT II Physics :- 790
UW GPA:- 4.0
Top STEM School in country
NMF Finalist
600+hrs volunteering
decent EC’s Member of Finance club that reached Fed Reserve semi finalist in Fed Challenge
TSA finalist represented state
Applied for Business & Comp.Sc
Our FAFSA indicated we deserve no need based award, we are 250k+ earners

A bit disappointed, but , on aid. Just publishing these stats for students there to compare & see where they stand for OSU Columbus

@RRRGSP - got 15.5k with same stats. Didn’t apply for morrill due to not being minority. Is in final 2-3 choices. Go Bucks

@DG. Not minority either, but kinda surprisedm at the meagre merit award for a OOS student. Was expecting something larger, to send him to OSU.

@RRRSGP - 60k is a nice car…i hear you though…are you getting full ride at other comparable schools?

Did he apply for Eminence? That is a full ride. The merit aid dropoff between Eminence and National Buckeye is precipitous. He would probably get more merit aid from Miami. If he applied to Michigan, UVA, or Berkeley, he would received no merit aid (to speak of). There will be quite a few OOS admits that don’t get National Buckeye but who come to OSU anyway. They will be OSU’s biggest cash cows.

Reporting in on scholarship. Received via snail mail about a week ago. In state engineering, accepted first wave. 4.6w/3.95UW GPA. 1470 SAT (1510 superscore, but that doesn’t matter for OSU). Math 2 and chemistry SAT2, both 780. 2 letter athlete, strong band musician. Zero other ECs.

Provost scholarship ($2k). Probably top 10% of class, definitely not 3% so maximus not expected. Only applied to one college so this is a nice surprise but was not a deal-breaker.

@cypresspat - congrats…

@DG, thank you. He only applied to one school, which kind of made us nuts. I think this meant a lot to him; he is completely in love with OSU and thats the real prize. But that made him feel the love might be mutual. Tough to feel special in a class of 9,000!

@RRRGSP $14k is still a nice amount, especially considering the income level that you posted (although I am also surprised the NMF didn’t bring more). Congrats to your son.

Received notification of Provost ($2k/year) and National Buckeye ($12.5K/year) today.
ACT 32, GPA 3.96/4.38, OOS, homeschooled so no class rank.

@threegirlpileup did you get snail mail or email? If email personal or through OSU? When were you accepted? Thanks

@smgins snail mail. Was accepted a few weeks ago. Haven’t heard about honors yet.

My OOS daughter was accepted in November and has not heard about merit scholarships yet, she has a 30 on her ACT, so she does qualify. If she officially accepts will this decrease her chances of receiving a merit scholarships since the school knows that she will attend with or without a scholarship? Does OSU use merit scholarships to entice students to accept and attend?

@IllinoisMom1 - no i dont think it does impact potential merit…and of course they use merit to entice students to attend…OSU is trying (successfully) to climb up the rankings and is using good merit offers in order to do that.

@illinoismom1 I would probably wait to commit. You have plenty of time to do so. Scholarships are rolling through the middle of March. Also, a 30 ACT is no guarantee of receiving a scholarship as experiences have shown in the past. Would you attend OSU without the scholarship?

It depends on who you ask, she wants to, but I want her to wait. Indiana gave her $20K in scholarships, so I’m interested in seeing how OSU package compares. D16 received the National Buckeye with a 31 ACT, so we’re hopeful.
