Scholarship Application Turned in Late?

How strict are colleges when it comes to scholarship/honors program deadlines?

I did my application for East Carolina's Honors College, but I wasn't able to send it in... The postmark deadline was on Saturday, March 24. I went to my post office around 4:30, but I never realized that Saturday P.O. hours were shorter, and the nearby FedEx/UPS stores were already closing down as well. If I head down to mail it tomorrow and mark it for rush/express delivery, will that help make up for lost time? Or am I pretty much short on luck at this point?

Honestly, it was more of a last-minute decision to apply for ECU's Honors program since my family learned that we would be moving down to the Greenville, NC area where ECU is... If they end up rejecting it due to tardiness, it wouldn't be the end of the world, but it would definitely be great if they were somewhat lenient about it...

It wouldn’t hurt to overnight it. It would depend on whether the school’s postmark deadline was something carved in stone, or if it was just meant to protect you in case the mail was held up and your application didn’t get to their office before the scholarship committee looks at the applications. If it was me, I would just send it in, anyway. Expect to NOT get considered, but hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained! The worst you can do is to loose a couple of dollars for express mail postage.
