<p>So I already submitted my application online and now I can apply for major scholarships using that Minerva thing. They say there are three essay questions, but the first really doesn't seem like an essay to me, just a list of activities done and awards received. For people who have seen this application, how would/did you format your answers to the first question? Just wanna make sure I don't completely screw this up. Also, how common or uncommon is it to get a major scholarship (especially for American students)?</p>
<p>I’m an American student - have a major schol. It is pretty uncommon, getting an entrance schol is a lot more common. Go for it anyway, it doesn’t take that much time to fill out and you never know. </p>
<p>For the list of activities/awards I just took what I put on common app basically, for really non-obvious acronyms of awards/activities I put like a 2 sentence explanation of what it is.</p>
<p>Ok thanks. Do I have to be the president of like a bunch of clubs to get these major ones? I’m involved in a bunch of ec’s but I’m only treasurer for one and on the board for another (not a president but not a secretary/treasurer either since our club doesn’t require the latter two positions. kinda just like an extra leader) and then i have a couple other ec’s i’m just a member in.</p>
<p>I think you should probably have something where you show leadership, but that doesn’t have to be a leadership position. For example one of my main ecs was organizing a large team for a benefit run. It was outside of school and it wasn’t something where I could have been a “president”.</p>
<p>You can also show leadership through dedication to a sport, in or our of school. </p>
<p>Focus on something you were really proud of doing in high school I think? I mean take all this with a grain of salt, I’m not sure how they actually make decisions. Good luck, though. :)</p>
