Scholarship Awarded!

Wow!
Just received an email…

Cal Poly awarded me a merit scholarship. I was completely not expecting this since I’m an out-of-state student.

Anyone else??

I just got that email too! I was completely not expecting it either since I’m out of state as well! Did you get the $2,000 cal poly outreach scholarship?

I didn’t get it but I’m not out of state. I’m so jealous of you guys!

got email but no merit…

i also got the $2000 outreach scholarship and i’m oos! nice surprise :)

seems like they are “reaching” out to OOS

They are trying to take a little of the sting out of that OOS tuition cost, particularly for the top OOS applicants who were just admitted.

I got it today too :)

The Cal Poly website states that in 2011-12 “Non-resident students pay fees plus $248 per unit non-resident tuition”. Anybody know what that works out to for the average student? How many units do students normally take? Just trying to get an idea what the annual (three quarters) costs would be for OOS students.
Sarsfield, for us, the first year will be $19,268. That was with a load of 18 credits (it got up to 18 when my son added a calculus workshop) in the fall, and 17 credits for both the winter and upcoming spring quarters. (That total does not account for the outreach scholarship.) But, my son’s major is a 5 year major and the average credit load per quarter is 15 over those five years, so we will have years that will be well under the $19k amount if tuition remains the same - ha.

D was awarded the $2000/yr outreach scholarship too.

Does anyone know if the outreach scholarship is for 4 years? The message said it was “renewable” but it seems like past years it has been non-renewable so maybe they made a typo?

Pinata and csfmap - thanks for the info

dmsenior93 - i would almost be certain that it is renewable for four years as long as one’s academic standing was in good order

The recipients from last year were notified "… To be eligible for the scholarship next year you must:

a) complete 45 degree applicable units
b) have a Cal Poly GPA of 3.0 "

…by the start of fall quarter sophomore year.

I got the same $2,000 Merit Scholarship. I’m out of state. Do anybody know how CalPoly awards out of state students in terms of large amounts of financial aid? I imagine it would be little, because California is super broke.

Have any in-state students received merit scholarship info?
