Their website says 64% of the enrolled 2014 class received some form of a grant, scholarship, or loan.
Got my acceptance email on friday and my letter today, also curious about scholarships.
SAT: 2160
Academic GPA: 3.55 (4.0 scale)
No class rank…
Rigorous course load with several APs, multiple extracurriculars including volunteer EMT and tutor, varsity captain.
Congratulations!
Wondering if you received scholarship info and UASP with admission letter?
We received admit letter today (honors notification via online), but no merit offer yet.
Yes, received 2 letters in mail today. One with admission acceptance and another with scholarship information. We applied early action. The scholarship letter referred to UASP. “This award also reflects your selection for the University Academic Scholars Program,” so I assume the 26,000 includes any scholarship money connected to that program.
Regular honors program admission was offered on the portal. There was no mention of that in either letter.
Is there a way to see how scholarship $ is divided up? We received a letter from FA today as well, but the amount is presented as a lump sum of everything - no breakdown of how much was given for what.
So once we know this for sure in March (I guess?) I’ll come back to post for future readers.
There is no breakdown. When I called to ask about that, they could not give me any additional information except that the total amount does not include financial aid, only scholarship money. I was told that departmental scholarships were not included in the amount and that information would be available in late March.
West coast here (California). No scholarship letter yet either. Admitted to Honors Program with 4.77 GPA, #1 out of 800 rank. 33 ACT with lots of leadership, volunteering, and heavily involved in music.
My son is an OOS freshman in the Honors program with a 33 ACT. He got $20,000 per year. He is studying Engineering and loves Miami so far.
One thing to consider for you California residents, the difficulty of graduating in four years from a California public university. My son’s roommate is an Honors freshman from California. (I don’t know what his stats were or how much merit money he received.) At move-in day, I talked to his folks. His dad is a Berkeley grad and mom went to one of the Cal State schools. They pointed out that you have to compare the cost of the Miami degree, where most students with significant AP credits will graduate in 3.5 to 4 years, to the five-year cost of a UCal or Cal State degree. Basically, it has gotten harder and harder in California to register for all the classes needed to timely graduate in popular programs like business and engineering. But that’s just the first step. As I thought about it more, you also have to factor in the opportunity cost of delaying a degree for a year. So for the five-year degree you first have to add in the extra cost of a fifth year. Then, the student who graduates in four years will presumably start working a year earlier. So you have to add another $50,000 or so to the cost of the fifth year to make a meaningful comparison.
$28k/year, partially based on Bridges attendance + UASP selection! My decision process is getting harder every day. I’m going to go watch Netflix for the rest of my break, and hope I come out of it knowing what’s best for me.
I applied to Miami in late August under Early Action (non-committing). I received my acceptance yesterday, but no notification about the Honors program or any scholarships.
Should I be concerned? (For comparison, I have a 34 ACT, 3.99 UW GPA, 1 of 132 class rank, and healthy extracurriculars/volunteer work).
