@bigdreams23, if the school that offered you the higher scholarship is a school that competes with Miami for students then you will have a greater chance of them increasing their award. It doesn’t hurt to try though. Contact your admission counsellor at Miami and describe your situation. They will be able to point you in the right direction for putting in an appeal. Good luck!
He applied prior to Dec 1st (1st week of November). We will call the admissions counselor. Something doesn’t make sense here.
You probably need to speak to the financial aid department. The admissions counselor can probably refer you to someone, or you can get the number from the web site. I suspect the issue is GPA as their merit says 3.5 minimum. They probably didn’t consider the medical situation you mentioned on the initial review. You’ll need to explain that and see what they can do. Might help to mention the other schools but that Miami is your first choice (assuming it is) if you can get aid resolved. They want good students to attend, I just think your S is in a unique situation due to the medical situation. But contact them asap because you don’t know when their money will dry up. Also want to be in their minds when money frees up after May 1 from students who choose not to attend.
I got exactly… $0 in school grants or merit scholarships. 3.7 GPA, 2260 SAT/34 ACT. Kind of upset, is there anything I can do to maybe get some money? Because my billed costs is $29,695, and the most my family can afford is probably around $6,000.
@spkang2020 You can certainly call FA and ask. Did you apply by 12/1? Were all of your application materials received on time? Were your test scores and GPA - 34 and 3.7 - at the time of your application? Miami did make a mistake with my d’s aid that was only discovered because we asked. It was for a departmental scholarship, not university merit, but it made a big difference in her total award amount.
I noticed some scholarship recipients did NOT have the 3.5 UW that the school says is required… Are they flexible about that if your standardized tests are high enough? I have a 3.3 UW (pretty good explanation for why I did poorly freshman year) and 35 ACT, do I stand a chance for any scholarship? Good EC’s (Eagle Scout, SGA all 4 years, NHS, Varsity Athlete)
