Scholarship Candidacy vs Acceptance

Wow, that’s awesome! I should be getting one soon. When did you receive your general acceptance packet?

On the 27. Oh and the booklet has a parking pass! Haha.

Congratulations andromeda89!

The other Trustee finalists should be getting letters soon too. I would think the school knows that it’s easier to book plane tickets more than 21 days before flying.

Thank you yorkiemom!

Does USC offer to pay the cost of plane tickets to fly all the way to CA if we live thousands of miles away? I don’t know if my parents could afford hundreds of dollars for a plane ticket to compete for a scholarship that isn’t guaranteed. Some schools do fly-ins for students, but I wasn’t sure if USC does that. Does anyone have any info on this? I’ve been browsing this thread and haven’t been able to find anything.

blissfulting, I am pretty sure that in past years, USC pays up to $200 for the student’s ticket. With that in mind, things might change from year to year.

Does the offer to pay for part of airfare come with the invitation letter?

Good question… That’s part of the “mystery” left for us to find out in a few days. : )
Maybe one of the others who has already received the invitation can answer this question.

This is on the Explore USC Summary after you submit your reservation:

"Should you or your parents need to make flight plans or arrange for an overnight hotel stay for Explore (students are housed in university housing ), we strongly recommend using USC’s official travel agency, STA Travel. Call them at either (213) 743-4782 or (888) 502-9056 and mention that you’ll be attending an Explore USC program. They have access to specially discounted plane tickets and hotel rates. As we mentioned in our letter, if you need to fly to Los Angeles (LAX is our closest airport), we will provide you monetary assistance that will offset a portion of the cost for student’s ticket (half the cost of the ticket, up to $60 for students from CA, AZ, or NV, or $200 from anywhere else). STA travel will apply this discount to your ticket. "

This is definitely reassuring. I checked the cost for a plane ticket from my town to LAX on STA Travel’s website. If anyone wants to do that, just google STA Travel, and it’ll lead you to it.

Has anyone found out that they are being invited to interview for the Presidential Scholarships right now or are only the Trustee scholars finding out?

I just got my acceptance in the mail yesterday!

However, we are still working on the CSS profile. Does the invitation to come interview come with the acceptance or a week afterwords? In other words, if I didn’t get the invitation with the acceptance am I not eligible.

Invitations are mailed a little after the acceptances. There’s no scholarship notification in the acceptance package.
Good luck!

Does everyone receive an Experience USC booklet? I received it with the acceptance package but don’t see anything regarding Trustee finalist status.

My d also received acceptance packet on Jan 28th, in it was experience USC packet, but no thing on website. Does that mean no scholarship? Arg!

I found about presidential through the online glitch, to answer someone’s post on the previous page.
