Scholarship chance for ED applicants and Supplement materials

I have two questions:

Scholarship chance for ED applicants: I’m applying to Johns Hopkins University early decision even though I have financial limitations. Do early decision applicants have equal opportunity of earning scholarships and financial aid as regular decision applicants?

Supplement Materials: Can I send in extra materials such as a photo or an artwork even though I’m not applying as an art major?

Please refer to the following web site for detailed information about applying to Johns Hopkins University as an Early Decision applicant: http://apply.jhu.edu/faqs/ed.html. Students admitted under the Early Decision plan must commit to Johns Hopkins University and withdraw all other applications. The admissions standards and review process are nearly identical for students applying under the Early Decision plan or applying Regular Decision.

As an Early Decision candidate, one is eligible to apply for all types of need-based aid offered at Johns Hopkins. Choosing Early Decision will not limit one's financial aid options or consideration for merit scholarships. If one is accepted ED and qualifies for assistance, an estimated aid offer will accompany the acceptance packet. This offer is based on information submitted on the College Scholarship Service PROFILE form. A final aid offer will follow in the spring, pending receipt of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and one's parents' prior calendar year federal income tax returns. In the unlikely event that information on the FAFSA and tax returns varies significantly from original estimates, the financial aid package could change. In the rare case where we are unable to offer you full need-based financial aid, you may be released from the Early Decision contract.

Please note that since merit-based scholarships are not awarded until the regular decision round, students relying on merit-based aid are discouraged from applying ED. As well, since our ED plan limits one's ability to compare financial aid packages from other universities if admitted to Hopkins ED, students where financial aid is a chief concern should consider applying regular decision. The final decision of whether a student should apply ED or RD is one that the individual student must make on their own or in conference with their parents and college counselor. The Admissions staff will not make such decisions for students.

Applicants to Johns Hopkins University may submit supplemental information such as CDs, DVDs, slides, art portfolios, and other such items. There is no additional forms that need to be completed nor do we have a preference regarding format. We do request that you include your full name, birth date, and high school on any supplement materials you send in. All information needs to be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Please note that this information will not be sent to academic departments for official reviews, but will remain in the Admissions Office with your application. There is no guarantee that supplemental information will be reviewed, but in most cases the Admissions committee will have some time to evaluate such additional information. Finally, it is important that original items not be sent, as the Admissions office is not able to return submitted application materials.

Thank you AdmissionsDaniel!:)
