Okay, D has been accepted and really wants to go to A&M but oos is way too high for us. We are pinning our hopes on scholarship (at least $1000) and so in-state tuition but the wait is driving us crazy. What do you think her chances are? What are the stats of students who get these scholarships? Anyone have any idea?
Here are her stats:

GPA: 3.8 unweighted, with as many AP as school offers (5)
rank: 3/112
SAT: verbal - 710, math - 690
lots of ECs with leadership: NHS, Class council, 2 bands, 2 sports
lots of volunteer hours

UConn offered her 1/2 tuition scholarship so hopefully A&M will come through. If UConn saw her abilities, maybe A&M will too!
She wants to join the rest of her family of Aggies (including me!)

I think your D. has a very good chance at getting something from the honors program. My DS was told by A&M to let them know if he got a competitive offer that would mean less out-of-pocket for him/us than attending A&M; A&M said they would try to be competitive with the better offer. I would suggest that you contact honors and let them know that A&M is D’s first choice and ask them what they can do. You will have to send them a copy of the offer your D. received from UConn. Hope this helps and good luck! :)

Did you email, fax, or mail your scholarship offers? I’m in the same situation: out-of-state and need at least the in state tuition, but I have been offered scholarships around half tuition to other schools.

We sent ours as an attachment to an email. We made a chart comparing the other offers to A&M’s and attached that. We were told these go to the associate dean for review who then works with the scholarship/financial aid office to see if there is any extra money to be awarded.

Well, the honors dept responded to my email, but they didn’t answer my question about whether we should send them info about other scholarship offers. They just told me that scholarship offers will be sent out on Mar 1 and that they all come with instate tuition waivers. So I guess we just wait and see what happens.

Well, according to email, scholarships have been posted but there is nothing on d’s aid portal. I’m guessing this means she didn’t get anything. She will be so dissappointed because that was the only way she could go to A&M which is definitely her top choice. We can’t pay oos tuition. I’m still hoping something shows up. I will probably try to call later and double check. Sad day at our house, the Aggie legacy ends here. On to 3rd choice school now, its the only one that has given her a good scholarship. Top two are just too expensive.

oosmom, My dd has a letter from the Honors Program which she received in January saying she was definately awarded a scholarship & oos tuition waiver as a NM Semifinalist, with other potential scholarships pending Finalist status. She went to her portal this morning after receiving the email and there is nothing there. There must be some kind of technical glitch. Have you called yet? We plan to give it a few hours and then call if there are no changes.

give it time before you make the calls, because my counselor said i was being considered for a scholarship last week, but im guessing i didnt get it? or either it just hasnt posted?

I would not worry yet. I haven’t receieved anything either. I don’t really know what my chances are really, so I’m just going to sit back and wait. I thought I would have a good chance at something considering that the other schools I applied too have been extremely generous. Good Luck everyone.

There must be a computer glitch because DS got an email from honors last night saying scholarships posted but there is nothing there. We know for a fact that he has been awarded scholarships because he was offered them via snail mail and had to sign and return to accept them. I have a feeling honors/scholarship office will be getting many calls today…mine included! Keep the faith all! :)

Howdy!
There is currently an error posting in the Financial Aid portion of Howdy that is incorrectly informing scholarship applicants that their application has not been received. We are currently working to fix this error so please disregard. Scholarship awards should post as soon as tomorrow and will continue to post as they are awarded to students.

Thanks, Everyone, for the helpful info. My S checked on Howdy today, after getting the email from the Honors Dept, and no scholarships were posted. But he already knows he is getting some, so we figured it was a glitch. Always comforting to have that confirmed, though.
