Scholarship confusion

hey, I applied to UA in november and received a letter in december saying that I was immediately granted a scholarship of 12,664 to cover my tuition b.c of my SAT scores. Today, I recieved another letter saying that I received the Presidential scholarship. The amount is similar to the one stated in the first letter. Does this mean that it is the same scholarship or two totally different one?

Can anyone help?

I'm pretty sure those two are the same; the first award was automatic but temporary in case you didn't get any other scholarships while the second is permanent. Thus you'll probably end up with the amount stated in the presidential scholarship award.

Hey I got that too. I believe it is the same but my parents say it's differnet. I tried to call them, but they are out for spring break.

ecnerwalc3321- Are you planning to go to UA? Your situation your parents and you is exactly the same as mine. :P I hope its two different ones though. ::::crossing fingers::: I kept trying to call the scholarship department but I keep getting the stupid answering machine. its very frustrating.

There's still a chance but not too likely. I still like UA though. People are firendly and a lot of my classmates are going there. If you are going, you are sure to like it. Are you planning to go there? What other schools did you apply to?

I applied to Baylor and Tulane. For most of my senior year, I wanted to go to Baylor. I visited it b.c its only like 2 hours away, and I liked the atmosphere; a lot of the administration was very friendly. Yet, I think I will end up going to UA b.c of the cost. I'm planning to visit the campus in a couple of weeks.
in your opinion, is UA pretty accepting of out of staters?

major? There are some out of staters here mostly from the southeast though. did you apply for the Honor's program? If you are a presidential scholar and apply for it, I think you get automatic acceptance. (AT least that's what it says on one of the letters)

Political Science, u?
I am just concerned b.c I am not into football, more of a hockey fan :P. I still debating whether to apply for the Honor's program. I like what I hear about it though. Are you planning to apply?

The official letter sent out within the past week includes everything you are being offered by UA. The letters received prior to this were the automatics to let you know in advance the minimum you could expect to receive. My D received several of these letters during the Fall, but the combined best offer from these automatic letters is included in the letter she received a few days ago. The only thing that may change from this "official" letter is if someone with a higher scholarship offer declines and it is subsequently offered to you OR if you are awarded a scholarship by your local area UA Alumni Assn. (although Nat'l Alumni Assn scholarships are awarded by the University, alumni chapter scholarships are not awarded by the UA scholarship/fin aid office).

Don't debate! You should apply for the Honor's Program. I attended a seminar about this program. There are more opportunities to engage in reserach, unlike other large state univiersities. More perks basically. If you are going to attend any public institution, my advice is to always enroll in one that offers you a Honor's program. It probably isn't too late to apply. Like I said, I received a letter telling me that there is guaranteed admissions to Honor's program if you are a presidential scholar (only 100 people are these).

football is big. However, you'll learn to like it:) Basketball is the second biggest sport there. If you don't like either, you should be fine. The campus is big and I'm sure you'll find other people like you.

Applying for engineering.

Anyone know what is going on with the Honor's Program Admissions? I applied a few months ago... and they said they cannot verify anyone's ACT/SAT scores because their systems are messed up... despite the fact that I've sent them my scores twice.

irishred - My D didn't run into any problems like you describe. I believe they have selected 40 incoming freshman (and some alternates) for the Computer Based Honors Program, but admission to the University Honors Program and International Honors Programs is still open for students who qualify. You might try e-mailing the Dean of the Honors College directly and see if you can cut through the confusion. I've e-mailed him several times and have found him both prompt and helpful in his replies. I've sent you a private message with his e-mail address.

I have no idea. I sent my application for Honors program and got accepted the next week.

OK, I think the scholarship made me sway toward UA. Is there an enrollment deposit? I looked through all the old letters and nothing is said about it. Not sure if I lost it or...

I have no idea.
