What RAI or statistics do you need to get the majority of your tuition paid for? I have a 3.92 gpa and a 31 ACT and a ton of extracurriculars (but I think their system is strictly numerical). Thank you so much

oh i just calculated it my RAI is 334…does that work for a substantial scholarship?

Im not sure. Its a really great school. I myself ( though stats below yours) have earned scholarships and was told that the scholarship amount could increase base on my financial need… this was really great news since I know my efc etc…

Looks like you will be competitive for scholarships I suggest to apply really early though ( like now) in order to be considered for scholarships.

What all do you do after accepted if your not sure if you will be attending the school next fall? I’ve been accepted but unsure if I will be attending next fall, do I just wait until like January when I’ll have a better ideal of all my options?

rcc321, your stats make you an excellent candidate for big money at Iowa. Your letter of acceptance might’ve listed some scholarship money to which you’re entitled right out of the chute. Beyond that money, you must apply, and Iowa has many scholarships for OOS, legacy, engineering, business school, etc. But the big ones are Old Gold/Presidential, the latter of which being the larger. One application covers both – if you qualify for Old Gold (3k/yr) you automatically become reviewed for Presidential, of which only 20 are awarded. Remember that all scholarships stack, so even if you don’t get Presidential – and you might --you could still possibly rack up a lot of dough. And these are MERIT scholarships. You may get more depending on need. See details here:

Coolbrezze, the only other thing you really must do now, and I mean NOW, is to apply for housing. It’s first come, first served and you’ll be toast by Dec if you wait until then. You pay a $120 deposit, $100 of which comes back to you if you choose not to attend. Instructions for doing this are in the packet you received in the mail. Additionally, be aware that merit scholarships all require additional apps with due dates. See the link above. By all means, do not do nothing until Jan.

^
So your telling me to wait until Jan before accepting acceptance if I’m not sure where to attend?

Sorry for confusing things. What I’m suggesting, even if you don’t know you want to go to Iowa, is that you 1) apply for housing and 2) apply for the merit scholarships you’re a prospect for.

If you wait until Jan to do those things 1) the housing options will be very few and 2) you’ll miss the scholarship deadlines. And doing these things do not represent a commitment to go – you can hold out on that until May 1, if you wish.

Best of luck!

Wow really? Okay well I that means I should go and accept my admission if I still can cancel it later.

Edit: Yeah just accepted admission but states if I wish to make any changes I must contact admission office.

Ooops. You misunderstood me. It is NOT necessary to accept admission at this point. Now they’ll want a big fat deposit. I am suggesting you APPLY FOR HOUSING now, which is entirely different.

It seems a little cart-before-the-horse-ish to apply for housing before you’ve formally accepted admission, but this is how it works.

I would think you could un-do the acceptance immediately, if you’re not certain you want to go to Iowa.

^
Oh great this is horrible. What now email them and say " I would still like the option of attending but not sold on attending"? If I do that I think they will just completely take away the acceptance, ouch. Any suggestions?

They will NOT yank your acceptance. My guess is that it happens about 10 times a day because intuitively one would accept before doing housing, right? From my experience, their admissions people are laid-back and helpful and want to attract kids to the school, not alienate them over technicalities. Call them!

And then read, perhaps very carefully :), the cover letter that came with your acceptance packet and follow it, perhaps very carefully

I think you’re in good shape.

This is all horrible,
Well they say if you want to cancel your admission simply call or write a letter though no mentions of mistakenly accepting a admission and still unknown of your decision and would like to undo a acceptance yet still have the option.

So you did phone? You need to phone and speak to a human being and ask them what to do.

No, I decided just leave it how it is and if I get accepted elsewhere that I rather attend I would then simply phone or write a letter about cancellation.
