My daughter got an e-mail invitation today. I assume this means she's been accepted EA. Does it also mean that she will be getting an invitation to the Honor's college?

My sister got invited/and went to Scholarship Day way back in 2006 or 2007? Every kid that went to Scholarship Day got a Scholarship and got into the Honor’s College back then. Like yourselves, she heard about this before actually getting accepted, the notice happened a few days before the acceptance… Congratulations to your family, how exciting!!! Yes, if it is not obvious, she is accepted!!

Guess it’s safe to cross UNC off my list now ;)

Why would you cross it off?

Has anyone else received this email?

There’s literally no way I can afford college without merit aid. I’m really glad I heard about it today though instead of when decisions come out so I can justify a specific application to my parents. Congratulations to everyone who got the invitation, though; UNC is an awesome school and I wish you all the best.

Hi, noname87, do you mind sharing your daughter’s stats? I’m just curious, I didn’t apply to Chapel Hill, but I’m starting to wish I did!

Hold on.
One person on here says he/she got an email. Did it really happen?
Does Carolina send out all of these invites at the same time?
Sounds a bit fishy to me.
Hang on. Be patient!

Yes she got it although she still refuses to believe she got accepted until she gets the acceptance letter. Based on past posts, they have mailed these invites out before the acceptance letters in the past.

Proud Dad

@noname87 is your daughter OOS or no?

Back in ~2006, my sister got a likely letter (electronic) before Christmas saying something like “you are at the top of our list…enjoy your Holidays”, and she refused to acknowledge this in any positive way (GO FIGURE!).
We got home from out of town around Jan.2 or so, and she had snail mail waiting for her dating back to late December that outlined Scholarship Day. Somewhere around Jan. 5 she got electronic notice of admission.
UNC doesn’t do likely letters anymore, according to their blog, but I truly think you have some great news!!

I can second this. I got a email today about the Scholarship Day invitation. I applied EA (IS), and needless to say I’m pretty pumped. I don’t know if all invites are given out on the same day. Congratulations and good luck to everyone else!

I’m confused. So basically if I didn’t get a scholarship invitatoon via email today, does that mean I am most likely rejected?

No, the converse isn’t true. All it means is you most likely aren’t going to get a full merit award from UNC. In-state has several more minor scholarships, and Robertson and Morehead are still up for grabs, but most scholarships come from Scholarship Day. If you got the invite, though, you’re guaranteed admission (unless there was some technological problem).

From the UNC site. Basically invites had to be sent out about now because of the Feb 1 date.

"At Scholarship Day, you will join other scholars and Carolina faculty members in small discussion groups. Your participation will help the Scholarship Selection Committee finalize the Fall 2013 Class of Merit Scholars.
Awards will range from $2,500 to the equivalent of tuition, fees, room, and board for four years. Recipients will be notified within two weeks of the event. For more information on the types of scholarships available, visit the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid.
Date, Time and Location
Scholarship Day will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Wow, only two people on here got it so far! I’m bummed…but oh we’ll! Got to hope I get in at all now

Probably this is also a very good sign that they have evaluated their pool of applications and are ready with their decisions thus adding to the likelihood that they will tell us very soon!

My daughter is also IS. Perhaps they notified the IS applicants first…or it could be that invitations are sent out in groups depending on the specific merit scholarship bucket you are in.

They said on their blog there will be a second Scholarship Day in March, for OOS students I am assuming.

I think 2nd scholarship day is for regular decision applicants
