Scholarship Day

Just some questions I have regarding scholarship day...
Does everyone get the same article to read?
And I'm assuming complete formal attires for the "discussion" ?
No one-on-one interviews? Even for the full ride scholarships? So would all the finalists for the same scholarship be in the same discussion group?
And what's up with the essay thing? Is that just a after-discussion writeup assignment?

Not everyone gets the same article- you will be split into different tables when you get there and the people at your table will have read the same article and will be your discussion group. You will also have a faculty member/ someone from admissions at your table who will lead your seminar.
They boys mostly wore slacks and button ups or slacks and suit jackets while the girls wore dresses and skirts.
There is no one-on-one interview for the full ride scholarship or any others. I don’t think everyone at the same table is up for the same scholarship, at least not everyone at my table got the same one.
The essay is very short, 30-45 minutes and it’s no sweat. They just ask you to write a response to your discussion.
Good luck!

Each table in the meeting hall will have read the same article. I think my group had seven or eight members.

Be sure to read up prior to attending, because you will be in discussion groups with the professor who picked the article (mine had a grad student taking notes about us for him too). Don’t try to memorize the data or anything, just make sure your mind is working nimbly because they will throw out extremely open-ended questions related to the article’s material and your group will completely wow you with their thoughtful answers. I felt really overwhelmed by the brilliance in that room…
The “essay” is indeed just an after-discussion writeup. The professor tells you ahead of time what to write, and it’s mostly a summary of the discussion and anything else you want to add/elaborate.

Nope, no one-on-one interviews, unless you count the casual conversations between you and everyone else there =)
This is not a day to eliminate people from receiving awards, just a day to determine who gets what amount.
Yes, dress nicely of course. I would also say don’t worry about bringing a resume or anything (I met some people who brought theirs) because the entire day is discussion and interaction based.
And the food was great. They make you feel awfully special when you’re there. =D

Best wishes!!!
